To Stress U. S. Life,
Not American Jewry
NEW YORK (AJP) — Material
for the first Voice of America
broadcast to Israel is based on
the belief that Israeli listeners
are more interested . in America
as a whole than
in American
Jewry.
The fact was
revealed as the
first all-Hebrew
broadcast Sun-
day reached Is-
raeli radio lis-
teners around
evening t e a -
Dr. Glazer
time.
Dr. Glazer, head of the Hebrew
desk of the Voice of America,
explained to the American Jew-
ish Press that there will be some
news about American Jewry on
the daily half-hour show, beam-
ed to Israel at 8 p.m., but it Will
mainly tell about the United
States rather than American
Jew. .
br. Glazer said that about 15
minutes will consist of material
to help Israelis better under-
stand America. This portion will
include straight news, educa-
tional programs and features
covering science, music, culture,
American farming m e t h o d s,
books Americans are reading
and similar information. T h e
rest of the broadcast will em-
phasize the American viewpoint
on world affairs.
Dr. Glazer said that leading
newspaper editorials will b e
be quoted and trends of public
opinion polls will be reported
designed to give Israeli radio
fans not only a picture of what
Americans are doing but also
what they are thinking.
The ,first program included
greetings to the people of Israel
from Department officials, Sen-
ator Herbert Lehman of N e w
York and Abba Eban, Israel Am-
bassador to the United States.
Dr. Glazer is an expert in Near
East relations and has been a
government official for nearly
10 years, three of them as chief
of the Near East Division of the
Library of Congress.

Foreign Minister Hippolito Paz,
who is currently in Washington.
