To Honor Memory
Of Rebetzen R. Zager
In the squalid mellah (ghetto) of a North African city, the
father—suffering from TB—looks after the children while the
mother works as a housemaid to support the family. This Jewish
family is typical of the thousands who are receiving Joint Distrib-
ution Committee Passover aid this year. JDC, which receives its
funds from the United Jewish Appeal, is providing matzos,
matzo meal and Passover wine this year for thousands of Jews
in Moslem areas, Europe and Israel.
U.S. Austrian, Commissioner Asks
Ban on Harlan's 'Immortal Beloved'
VIENNA (JTA)—United _States
High Commissioner for Austria,
Walter Donally, asked the Aus-,
trian Government -to ban show-
ings of the film "The Immortal
Beloved" in the American zone
of• Austria.
The film, .produced by. Veit
Harlan, formerly a close a.sso-,.
ciate - of Hitler's Propaganda
Minister Josef Goebbels and
producer of the Nazi film, "Jew
Suess," was the cause of a riot
in Salzburg last week in which
Jews and anti-Nazis, demon-
strating against the showing of
the picture in Austria, were in-
jured in a clash with police and
Hitler Youth groups.
In a note to the government,
the United States official said
he was deeply concerned over
the Salzburg incident in which
people protesting against per-
formance of the picture were
attacked and seriously wounded.
He pointed out that showing of
the Harlan film had been ban-
ned because of Harlan's Nazi
background.
