Bond Drive. Will Change
Face of Israel, Detroit
Leaders Advised by Geri

"One strong heave through
the Israel bond drive and Israel
will be helped to become self-
supporting," Ya akov Geri, the
Minister of Trade and Industry
of the Jewish state, told a group
of prominent Detroit leaders
Friday.
At a meeting at Hotel Stotler,
Mr. Geri outlined the plans
under way for the establishment
of numerous industrial enter-
prises and for the increase of
Israel's productivity, with in-
vestment funds to be secured
through the $500,000,000 Israel
bond drive to be launched on
May 1.
Henry Montor, vice-president
of the American Financial and
Development Corporation for Is-
rael, who came to Detroit with
Mr. Geri, pointed out that the
investment project represented
in the Israel bond issue is part
of the four-point program in
behalf of Israel. He stated that
by unanimous decision of
American Jewish leaders repre-
senting all responsible organiza-
tions and movements in this
country, $1,500,000,000 must be
raised in the coming three years
to establish Israel on a sound
economic foundation — a third
of it to be provided 'by Israelis
themselves, a third to come
from philanthropic funds and
the other $500,000,000 to be pro-
vided by investment funds

necessary equipment, and we
hope, in accordance with SEC
requirements, to enlist the co-
operation of all American

Jews."
Pointing out that Israel is one
of the few countries that pos-
sesses fertilizer, Mr. Geri said
that the large deposits of potas-
sium and phosphates in the
Negev and Dead Sea areas offer
vast opportunities for profits.
He said that from these two
resources and from the nitrate
plant, made possible with funds
provided by the American Ex-
port,-Import Bank Israel hopes
to acquire a profit of $10,000,-
000 a year.

"We need a chance to fin-

Mr. Geri said. "We need funds
