troit's Jewish history in 1948 by
reaching a total of $5,778,042.
In 1947 the total raised was
$3,936,876, a n d in 1949, $5,232,
116.
William Rosenwald, national
co-chairman of the UJA, who
also addressed the Jan. 18
meeting, outlined the aims of
the United Service for New
Americans to setle DPs in this
country with UJA funds and
told of the great achievements
in Israel -With funds raised in
this country. He appealed that
campaigns should start early
and finish early and that allo-
cations should be generous.
At the pre-campaign budget-
ing conference on Sunday, there
will be a presentation of local
and national agency operating
needs by chairmen of three Fed-
eration budget divisions : Milton
K. Mahler, health and welfare;
Henry Meyers, education; Morris
Garvett, community relations.
Local capital needs will be de-
scribed by Ben L. Silverstein.
There will be general discussion
by participants in the confer-
ence.
During the luncheon, which
will be served at 12:30, the steer-
ing committee headed by Mrs.
Joseph H. Ehrlich will draft a
formula on the basis of the
discussed needs. Mrs. Ehrlich's
committee includes Mr. Silber-
stein, Abraham Srere, Leon Kay,
Sidney J. Allen, Mrs. Hyman C.
Broder, Mr. Garvett, Mr. Mah-
ler, Mr. Meyers, Harry Schumer
and Sidney M. Shevitz. The af-
ternoon session will discuss the
recommendations of this com-
mittee.

eration board of governors for
action.

had allocated '72 per cent of
the 1950 Allied Jewish Cam-.
paign funds to Israel and
overseas agencies, with the
UJA the largest overseas ben-
eficiary.
Second largest allocation went
to local social service agencies
: for operating costs and an ad-
ditional 2.9% was granted for
Detroit capital funds. National
agencies received 3.6% of the
$4,158,151 total available for al-
location, in accordance with last
year's pre-campaign budgeting
formula.
An additional 7.5% was voted
to Resettlement Service, which
is included in local services, to
provide adjustment aids to new
Americans settling here from
Europe. •

Preparing for the 1951 an-
nual meeting of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, Samuel
H. Rubiner, Federation pres-
ident, has announced the
appointment of Mrs. Leonard
H. Weiner as chairman of the
nominating committee to se-
lect a proposed slate of nine
for members-at-large of the
Federation board of gover-
nors.
Members of the committee
include Dr. Harry August,
Louis Berry, Dr. B. Bene-
dict Glazer, Rubiner and
Morris Zack.
Names of the nominees will
be published, in accordance
with Federation by-laws, at
least 30 days in advance of
the meeting.

tute, scheduled for Wednesday,
