ing the previous year. The clinic,
to be located on Wyoming, south
of Six Mile Rd., is non-sectarian.
The work the Youth Educa-
tion League is doing has not al-
ways been easy. The sight of
ungainly little tots stricken
with brain injuries which pre-
vent normal control of body
muscles is not pleasant. The
months and months of treat-
ments necessary before some
form of improvement is even
visible is torturous—especially
since -most of the women are
themselves mothers.
Besides acting as case work-
ers investigating all CP cases,
YEL women have contributed
$4,000 to the clinic to be used
for educational and occupation-
al therapy equipment. This in-
cludes such vital materials as
specially built chairs, which are
necessary to prevent the chil-
dren from slipping out of them.
At the clinic, the women will
help check all incoming cases,
and will serve as volunteers- to
work wkth. the children to help
bring about their complete or
partial rehabilitation. In reality,
75 percent recovery is consider-
ed almost complete rehabilita-
tion.
The organization, through its
luncheon and show event to be
given Feb. 13 at Masonic Tem-
ple, will turn over its proceeds
to the clinic for the use of Jew-
ish children in particular, but
for the benefit of all patients.
Approximately 20 in-patients
will be able to use the clinic the
five days weekly it is open, and
an additional 25 or 30 will come
in for treatments. Several Jew-
ish doctors will be on the per-
manent staff.
Mrs. Saul Bloom is chairman
of the Youth Education League
project, and has been working
closely with other organizations
on CP cases.
