At Washington Parley

The biennial convention of the
United Synagogue of America is
being held in Washington, D. C.,
from Nov. 15 to 19. The follow-
ing will be attending as dele-
gates from Cong. Shaarey Ze-
dek; Judge Charles Rubiner, Dr.
Leonard Sidlow, Arthur S. Purdy
and Joseph Abrahams.
Dr. Sidlow is chairman of the
Congregation's education . com-
mittee and will discuss "A Nurs-
ery Program for Synagogue."
Abrahams, executive director of
Shaarey Zedek, will present a
paper on "Reaching the Unaf-
filiated" at a combined session
of the United Synagogue and
the National Association of Syn-
agogue Administrators.
The biennial convention of the
National Federation of Sister-
hoods of the United Synagogue
will be held in Minneapolis,
Minn., from Nov. 12 to 16. Dele-
gates from Congregation Shaar-
ey Zedek's Sisterhood are: Mes-
dames Morris Adler, Harry Co-
hen, Aaron Friedman, Abe Kat-
zari. Charles Robinson, Carl
Schiller, Leonard Sidlow, Nathan
Spevakow and Louis Tatken.

On 125th Anniversary

NEW YORK — A citation to
Congregation Bnai Jeshurun up-
on the 125th anniversary of its
founding, for "its unwavering
loyalty to its ideals, its courage
to assume the many responsibil-
ities which every new day
brought, and for its indefatig-
able participation, under the
leadership of Rabbi Israel Gold-.
stein in those labors which
made possible in our day the
miracle of the birth of the State
of Israel," was presented to the
historic synagogue at 257 W.
88th St., by the United Syna-
gogue of America, representing
450 conservative synagogues in
the United States.
The Scroll was given by Dr.
Simon Greenberg, executive
director of the organization, and
accepted by Jacob Sincoff, con-
gregation president, at the jubi-
lee celebration.

Bnai Moshe to Begin
Adult Education Series
For Twelve Sessions

Cong. Bnai Moshe Adult School
of Jewish Studies will commence
on Monday evening, and will
continue for 12 sessions on suc-
cessive Tuesday evenings.
Dr. Max Arzt, professor • of
practical theology at the Jewish
Theological Seminary, will de-
liver Monday's lecture. He will
be followed by Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Four courses will be taught
from 8 to 9 p. In:, followed by a
lecture from 9 to •10. Beginning
Hebrew will be taught by David
Levi, advanced Hebrew by Wal-
ter Farber. Morton J. Sobel will
teach a class on Mental Hygiene
and the Jew.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will
conduct a class on Judaism
through Personalities, in which
he will discuss ten of the fore-
most Jewish personalities who
helped mold Jewish life.

Beth Aaron Synagogue will
commence late Friday evening
services at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 17. A
brief traditional Sabbath eve
service will be held with a ser-
mon followed by an informal
social hours.
Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick,
assisted by a group of lay Can-
tors from the congregation, will
conduct the services.
The cantors include Messrs.
Herman Becker, Louis Ellenson,
Max Kaminsky and Dr. Marvin
A. Last.
The social hour will be super-
vised by a committee from the
Sisterhood under Mrs. Alex

Two Detroit men are among

sion of the convention of the
Union of American Hebrew
Congregations in Cleveland on

post of national vice chairman
