of Northwest Hebrew Cong., will
participate in the opening sess-
ion on. Thursday evening. Rabbi
Segal will discuss "Ritual and
Symbol in J u d a is m." Rabbi
Routtenberg will follow with an
analysis of the "Backgrounds of
the Synagogue".
The Institute will continue
with a late Friday evening serv-
ice, Nov. 17 at 8:15. Rabbi Mor-
ris Adler will preach on "What
every Adult Jew Should Know".
An Oneg Shabbat will follow the
service.
Rabbi Routtenberg will be guest
at the Sabbath Morning Service
on Nov. 18. He will speak on
"The Synagogue in Our Day".
At the closing session of the
Institute, Rabbi Routtenberg,
Rabbi Adler and Rabbi Moses
Lehrman of Cong. Bnai Moshe
will participate in a symposium
"What Conservative Judaism
Means to Me". Rabbi Adler will
present. the "View of Jewish

The Chevra Ayin Yaacov, of
Cong. Bnai David, will celebrate
a seyum (the conclusion of
learning) on the completion of
the book of Ayin Yaacov. Fol-
lowing the siyum, the annual
installation banquet will take
place at 6 p.m., Wednesday in
the synagogue s social hall.
Rabbi Joshua S. Spea, Jo-
seph Gorman, Jacob SaTidberg,
Jacob Ritten will be on the pro-
gram, with Cantor Hyman J.
Adler providing musical selec-
tions. The, following officers will
be installed Jacob Sandberg,
president; Joseph Weininger,
vice-president; Simon Shapiro,
treasurer; and Sam Zack, sec-
retary.
The siyum committee is com-
posed of Aaron Cannon, Naph-
tali Capp, Zelig Needle, Ben
Pearlman, Jacob Ritten and
Simon Shapiro.

In Armistice Day Service,
Temple Israel will receive an
American f 1 a g presented the
congregation by the Jewish War
Veterans of Michigan. The serv-
ice will be held tonight at 8:30,
at Temple Israel, 17400 Mander-
son Rd. Led by their officers, the
veterans will "carry the flag to
the altar of the Temple.
, Rabbi Leon Fram will preach
on the subject, "From Armistice
to DisarTament."
The Sisterhood Choir will ren-
der a religious and patriotic
cantata entitled, "What Is To-
rah," composed by Julia and Ira
Eisenstein. The cantata will be
conducted by Karl W. Haas, Mu-
sical director of Temple Israel,
and will be accompanied at the
piano by Mrs. Morris W. Stein
and at the organ by Mrs. Lois
B. Dorsett.
Harry Ma diso n, past com-
mander of the Jewish War Vet-
erans of Michigan, will also
present the Temple with a Unit-
ed Nations flag.
Among the leaders of Veterans
groups viewing the ceremony as
guests of the congregation will
be the Department Adjutant of
the Amvets, Leslie Honeycut;
senior vice-commander of the
Military Order of the Purple
Heart, Robert D. Chipman; De-
troit district commander of the
American Legion, Thomas Rou-
mell; and Norman Berkley, com-
mander of the Jewish War Vet-
erans of Michigan.
Harry C. LeVine, congregation
president, will accept the flags.
All veterans and the public are
invited.
