McGrath Raps Claims
Of Dual Citizenship
Leveled at U.S. Jews
Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News
BOSTON — Charges of "Dual
Citizenship" leveled against
American Jews were denounced
here Sunday night by Attorney
General J. Howard McGrath,
addressing a special New Eng-
land conference of the United
Palestine Appeal. "I can see no
possible problem of it in any-
thing loyal American citizens of
the Jewish faith do in helping
Israel," he said.
Mr. McGrath continued: "By
helping Israel the American Jew
links himself with Jewry every-
where in developing their com-
mon heritage — the ethical
principles of every religion —
liberty, justice and the brother-
hood of man. Indeed, the es-
tablishment of the state of Is-
rael has brought new dignity to
every Jew everywhere."
T h e U.S. Attorney General
also asserted that it was in the
"best interests of America" for
Israel to "stand as a strong out-
post of freedom and democracy
in the Near East." He declared
further in referring to Israel
that a "self-governing dignified
strong and free nation in that
part of the world will be a po-
tent element in achieving and
maintaining universal peace."
Other speakers included Dr.
Nahum Goldmann, chairman of
the American section of t h e
Jewish Agency, and Rudolf G.
Sonneborn, chairman of the
u.PA board of directors.
