Bride-Elect Sets Date
Active and alumni members
of Iota Alpha Pi sorority from
all parts of the United States
and Canada are arriving at the
'Fuller Hotel today, to begin
the sorority's first national con-
vention in Detroit.
At the opening delegates' re-
ception this evening, the young
women will be greeted by the
national chancellor, Tessie
Hahn Weisman of Chicago, and
Bette Weinberg, Detroit alumni
president.
Business meetings will be in-
terspersed . with social events
over the weekend. A luncheon
and fashion show, of which Mrs.
Albert Perlin is chairman, will
take place Saturday at t h e
'Fuller, and Mrs. Morris Goldin
Ls in charge of - the supper
dance which will be held Satur-
day evening at the Wayne Uni-
versity Student Center.
Nu chapter of IAPi at Wayne
will be hostess to the group at
a brunch and election meeting
on Sunday. The new national
officers will be installed at a
dinner Sunday evening at the
Whittier Hotel. Mrs. Gerald
Goodman has served as overall
convention chairman.
Habibi Israeli Cafe
Gets Bobri Murah
NEW YORK.—A variety of
colorful murals by the well-
known artist. Bobri, will adorn
the walls of Habibi, first authen-
tic Israeli cafe, which will open
Sept. 14 at 227 W. 46th St., it
was announced by host Motya
Nemiroff. These murals will
form a fitting background for
an all-Israeli show consisting of
Zamira Gon, Hillel and Aviva,
Yahalomi and an orchestra
Which will play Israeli rhumbas.

Jewish Child' Weliare
MOOSEHEART, Ill, (JTA) —
Respect for the rights of the
child—for his mental, physical
and spiritual welfare—has been
part of Jewish tradition.through
the ages, Frank Goldman, presi-
dent of Bnai Brith, told an
audience of more than 20,000
persons attending dedication
ceremonies of t h e $1,500,000
House of God.
Speaking as the representa-
tive of the Jewish faith, Gold-
man cited parallels between
Talmudic teachings and the
principles embodied in the Unit-
ed Nations draft Declaration of
the Rights of the Child. Dr.
Daniel Poling of Baptist Temple,
Philadelphia, spoke for t h e
Protestants and Father Nicholas
Wegner of Omaha, head of Boys'
Town, for the Catholics.

Re-orientation of the Pioneer
Women was the theme of the
third regional seminar of Pio-
neer Women, held at Farband
Camp, Aug. 27 to 30.
Participating in this year's
seminar were Mrs. Jacob Levitt,
national first vice president; Eva
Checkoway, recently returned
from Israel; Arthur Greenstein,
national executive director of
Habonim; Y e h u d a H e l lman,
chief correspondent of JTA in
Israel; Esther Names, Israeli
working with Detroit Habonim,
and Sara Halperin, regional
chairman. Carol Berman was the
regional seminar chairman.
Hillman Foundation
Lists $42,500 in Awards
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
trustees of the Sidney Hillman
Foundation announced alloca-
tion of $42,500 for scholarships,
grants-in-aid . and prizes de-
signed to foster closer labor-
management relations and to
promote the cause of democracy
and world peace, in accordance
with the ideals of the late Jew-
ish labor leader in whose mem-
ory the foundation was named.
A $10,000 grant-in-aid was
awarded to the social science
department of the University of
Chicago for a two-year study of
school and college textbooks to
root out the teaching of preju-
dice and discrimination. Schol-
arships totaling $18,000 were
made to Brandeis and Howard
Universities; New School for
Social Research; New York State
School of Industrial and Labor
Relations, Cornell University;
Roosevelt College; and Chaim
Weizman Institute in Israel.

to recruit 39 additional Jew-
ish chaplains by Jan. 1, 1951,
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gottlieb

nounced that they are setting
up a fund to assist sufferers
from infantile paralysis and to
help in the fight. against polio.
The Gottliebs' daughter, Julie,
died of polio on Aug. 26, 1949,
at the age of 14. She was a stu-
