Tisha b'Ab Observed
By Traditional Rites
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Thou-
sands of Israelis participated in
a pilgrimage to Mount Zion, in
observance of the fast of Tisha
b'Ab, marking the destruction
of the ancient Holy Temples
here. Traditional recitations of
the Book of Lamentations and
of Kinnoth took place at the
holy site.
Bearded Jews gathered on the
rooftop of an ancient synagogue
facing the Wailing Wall—which
is in the Old City, in Arab hands
— to recite the Tisha b'Ab pray-
ers.
A burial .chamber dating back
to the period of the Second
Temple was discovered by a
worker operating a pneumatic
drill on the site of the future
building which will house ses-
sions of the World Zionist Con-.
gress.
