Traditional recitations of the Book of Lamentations and of Kinnoth took place at the holy site. Bearded Jews gathered on the rooftop of an ancient synagogue facing the Wailing Wall—which is in the Old City, in Arab hands — to recite the Tisha b'Ab pray- ers.
