Saks Resigns Council Job;
Attacks Lack of Program

Dr. Leon Saks, one of the
younger leaders in the Ameri-
can Council for Judaism and
president of its Cincinnati
chapter, has resigned from the
Council because of failure of the
anti-Zionist body to produce a
positive program. He said he
had long been dissatisfied with
the lag in producing a policy to
strengthen Judaism in America,
as well as the Council's national
policy of a frozen neutrality to-
ward Israel.
When reminded that he had
frequently taken the position
that "Jewish nationalism" con-
tained a threat to the status of
United States Jews and asked
how he proposed to continue his
fight against that threat, now

that he has left the Council, he
replied: "I frankly don't feel
that's the important question.
now. The important thing is to
provide help to Israel for the
task of resettling the refugees
coming there and to build Juda-
ism in America."

Limited Capital Needed
Henry Meyers, speaking for
the project at the Board of
Governors meeting, pointed out
that it would require a limited
capital fund campaign and that
part of the amortization of the
building would come from the
annual rentals of the agencies
housed in it.
Two years ago, according to
Mr. Butzel's wishes, his former
home at 299 Mack became a
home for Negro and white
nurses employed at the four
hospitals located in the neigh-
