Israel Delegation
Gets Royal Welcome
On Trip To Britain

LONDON (JTA)—The Israel
Parliamentary delegation which
was invited by the British Par-
liament to come to London for
the purpose of cementing Israel-
British relations, arrived here.
The delegation was met at
the airport by members of the
British..Parliament and high of-
ficials of the Israel Legation
here. ' - • • -
Contrary to reports from Je-
rusalem that the left Socialist
Mapam party is not represented
on the delegation, it was learned
that the delegation represents
seven parties in the Israel Par-
liament including Mapam. How-
ever, the extreme right-wing
Herut Tarty, which is strongly
anti-British, is not included.
The King of England tendered
a garden party at Buckingham
Palace for the delegation. The
affair took place Thursday
afternoon.
They also were given a recep-
tion by the Lord Mayor of Lon-
don and a dinner was arranged
in their honor by Prime Minis-
ter Clement Attlee.

More Production
Needed to Relieve
Austerity in Israel

TEL AVIV (JTA)—Israel can
no longer depend for its up-
building on - donations and con-
tributions from abroad which'
are meant for bringing in large-
masses of immigrants rather
than for helping to maintain
Israel's standard of living, Pre-
mier David Ben Gurion declared
at a meeting in honor of a-.His-
tadrut delegation which has
just returned from America
where i t s members studied
American technical "know-how."
He warned that Israel might
face further austerity and ra-
tioning unless production can
be increased in the Jewish state.
Ben Gurion listed Israel's
three major economic aims as:
1. Providing the means for mass
immigration and absorption in
Israel; 2. Economic independ-
ence, and 3. Improving the
standard of living in the Jewish
state. The Premier stressed that
these goals' can only be achieved
by increasing agricultural and
industrial production rather
than by austerity and rationing.
Finance Minister Eliezer Kap-
lan told the gathering that Is-
rael's agricultural production
has failed to keep pace with her
population g r o w t h. Another
Cabinet member, Dov Joseph,
Minister of Supply and Ration-
ing, warned that Israel may
soon be unable to buy raw ma-
terials because of lack of for-
eign currency which must be
spent for the importation of es-
sential foods.

Nippersink Manor Has
Air-Conditioned Dining

Detroiters visiting Nippersink
Manor Resort at Genoa City,
Wisc. this summer, will find the
modern dining room now great-
ly enlarged and completely air-
conditioned, according to Sid-
ney Shinderman, Nippersink's
owner-manager.
Nippersink's air - conditioning
is the first for a resort of this
kind in this section of the coun-
try, he commented.
Detroiters who are fond of
Nippersink's private, champion-
ship 18-hole golf course, will be
interested to know that Byron
Harcke, nationally known golf
pro, is back again this year.
The floating swimming pool
seems to be the other most pop-
ular Nippersink attraction for
Detroiters, Shinderman said.

Stardom Reached: Rosens Triumph

The major surprise of the
American League this year is
:the third baSeman of the Cleve-
•:kind Indians, Al Rosen.
Rosen has made a great hit
not only with the Cleveland
fans but also with the patrons
of most of the other major
league parks since he took over
for the Indians' former third
baseman Kenny Keltner.
Rosen is beginning to prove a
real threat to Babe Ruth's home-
run record. He is now ahead of
Ralph Kiner, with 27 home runs.
During spring training Honus
Wagner, the one-time . baseball
great, said about Rosen: "Now,
there's a hitter." Rosen has
made Wagner's conclusion come
true. For at the present he is
leading his team in three de-
partments: 1. hits; 2. runs bat-
ted in; 3. home runs, for which,
of course, he is making himself

famous. For a rookie he also has
a pretty' fine batting average,'
Which at the present is around
.307.
In high school he earned let-
ters in baseball, football, and
basketball. He also won a boxing
championship. In college he also
made quite a name for himself
in athletics.
He had a long fight to work
up to his present position and
it was interrupted once while
he served in the U. S. Navy.
Since the season is but a little
more than half over and Rosen
is batting and fielding like the
greatest, it appears that he is
going to be one of the greatest
third basemen this modern era
of baseball has produced.
