Warns of Nazism Rise
Warning that there has been
tremendous resurgance in
Germany of reactionary na-
tionalism and militarism with
strong Nazi overtones, Arthur
L. Mayer, formerly chief of mo-
tion picture branch of Military
Government in
G e r many, de-
Aclared at a
.luncheon meet-
ing of the De-
troit Chapter of
t h e American
Jewish Com-
mittee on
W e d nesday
A. L. Mayer that it was of
crucial importance to formulate
a program for the building of
a free Germany which will add
strength to European democ-
racy, and reinforce effective
opposition to all forms of totali-
ta rianism.
Scoring the premature release
of power to the Germans over
their political economic a n d
educational life, Mr. Mayer as-
serted "the Allies can no longer
command; they can only ex-
hort and try to persuade.'
Mr. Mayer charged that we
are making concessions to the
Germans and building up their
industrial potential which can
easily be converted into a war
potential in the conviction that
in any future emergency they
will be on our side.. "We are
making an error," he declared,
"for which our: children may
pay with their lives if we per-
mit any remilitarizatiun of Ger-
many."
Ml•. Mayer stated: "We have
the utmost faith in High Com-
missioner McCloy's high ideals
and genuine zeal for humani-
tarian causes. He is in no way
responsible for the present Ger-
man muddle and is doing every-
thing within his power, in our
opinion, to rectify the situa-
tion."
-Isidore Levin, chairman of the
Detroit. Chapter, presided at the
meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENT
MR. AND MRS. SAM BLAND WILL OPERATE
TAUB'S LODGE
By Judy Silverman
1950 Shaarey Zedek Consecrant
As a 1950 Shaarey Zedek Con-
secrant, I would like to express
an opinion which I believe is in
the minds of many of my fellow
students.
I enjoy receiving gifts and I
am thankful to those who are
honoring - me. But this is such a
sacred occasion that I wish that
the expense incurred in buying
presents would be used for wor-
thy causes.
My p e r s on al preferences at
this moment are the Mothers'
Camp at Chelsea, a project of
the Jewish Center; the effort
to improve the tennis courts at
my school—Central High School
—and the Jewish Theological
Seminary.
But my main hope is that peo-
plr will help worthy causes in-
stead of giving material gifts.
Moshe; Dr. David Gaberman, group will meet next at the
president of the chapter and home of Gertrude Steingold.
