Our Letter Box
Home Auxiliary Expresses
Appreciation for Service
Editor, The Jewish News:
The beginning of a new re-
gime affords us an opportunity
to once again express our sin-
cere appreciation for your full
assistance at all times in giving
such fine publicity to all our
events throughout the year in
The Jewish News.
The success of the Women's
Auxiliary of the Jewish Home
for Aged links your name to that
great chain of service we women
are forging for our aged resi-
dents at the Home.
DOROTHY POTIKER
Secretary, Women's Aux.
Jewish Home for the Aged

Thanks From the Red Cross
Editor, The Jewish News:
For the Detroit Chapter of
the American Red Cross, I ex-
tend sincere thanks to you for
the cooperation you have given
us during our recent campaign.
While we did not make our
goal in March-the formal period
of our campaign-we are still
continuing to see all prospects
and hope to reach our goal by
the end of April.

Asks Positive Action
To Ease Racial Tension
Editor, The Jewish News:
We read with approbation
your editorial "Mounting Racial
Tensions" several weeks ago,
and would like to add that your
approach should be considered
as only a beginning to badly
needed positive action.
If left unchecked, the current
trends can well end in a major
disaster which would make the
1943 riots dwindle into insignifi-
cance.
We should all take a lesson
from the people of Israel, who
solved their problems by, facing
them' squarely, and fighting
them directly. Here shooting is
not called for, but pressure
should be placed on the proper
authorities to have positive leg-
islation passed, which would
make occurances such as the
Chicago incident impossible.
We should recognize by this
time that mere efforts at, and
publicity for goodwill are futile.
The solution therefore seems to
be to stand up and fight for our
rights with every means avail-
able to us under the law. This
can be done by voting for can-
didates which espouse our cause,
working to defeat our enemies
at the polls, and getting positive
legislation passed.

`Jerusalem Corridor' Settlers
Want City As Israel's Capital
JERUSALEM (JTA)-At an
impressive carnival demonstrat-
ing Jerusalem's ties with its
hinterland, members of .25 set-
tlements in the "Jerusalem Cor-
ridor" arrived in the city in a
mile-long procession. They pa-
raded in Jerusalem's main
streets, exhibiting their agricul-
tural and dairy products.
Assembled at the YMCA sports
grounds, which were decorated
with Israel flags, the settlers
were greeted by Mayor Daniel
Auster and representatives of
the Israel Government. Chil-
dren from the settlements who
formed a considerable part of
the procession presented a play
whose theme was the determin-
ation of the population to make
Jerusalem the capital of Israel.
A large party of well-armed
Arab infiltrees from Transjor-
dari last night attacked a Bed-
ouin camp in Israel territory, in
the area of Beersheba, killing
one of the chiefs of the tribe
and making off with an entire
herd of cattle. The attackers
were driven off after neighbor-
ing camps rushed to the aid of
the Bedouins.
Israel President Chaim Weiz-
mann has recovered from ill-
ness. He expressed thanks to
all organizations and individ-
uals who inquired about his
health. Premier Ben - Gurion
and other members of the Cab-
inet visited the President during
the past few days.
