DR. HARRY FRIEDENWALD
Friedenwald, an outstanding eye
specialist and a professor of
ophthalmology and otology, at
Johns Hopkins University, died
Saturday night in Baltimore at
the age of 85.
Dr. Friedenwald served-az-sec-
ond president of the Zionist
Federation of America, prede-
cessor of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America, from 1904 to
1912. In 1919 he served on the
Zionist Commission to Palestine.
Among his varied activities
within the Jewish community
were service as president of the
Hebrew Education Society, pres-
ident of the Federated Jewish
Charities, member of the board
of Dropsie College and member
of the board of the Jewish The-
ological Seminary of America.
Among the major Jewish or-
ganizations which expressed sor-

trushka, noted scholar and au-
thor, died here Tuesday at the
age of 57. He was the editor of
the Yiddish Encyclopedia and
was recently sent to Israel by
