Wayne Oratory Contest
Miss Betty Provizer, .20-year-
old Wayne University Junior, won
first prize in the woman's divis-
ion of the university's oratory
contest.
Speaking at the Art Institute
Monday evening, Jan. 16, on the
subject, "Forgotten Children,"
Betty won over two others in her
division who qualified for the
final competition.
As recipient of a first prize she
will represent Wayne at t h e
State-wide oratorical contest at
Calvin College, Grand Rapids, in
March.
Betty placed third in last
year's contest, when she spoke
on Israel. She is the founder
and present director of the FDR
group of Bnai Brith Girls and
has been active on the Wayne
Hillel debate team.
Chapter 1, ZOD, Meets-
To Hear Cantor Adler
Cantor Hyman J. Adler, of

ured at the meeting of Chapter

Haar on Literature
Moishe Haar, director of the
Sholem Aleichem Institute, will
speak on Yiddish literature for
Branch 11, Labor Zionist Organ-

dler, the Detroit News.
Leading the discussion for the
budgeting and planning session,
"Spending for the Future," will
be William Avrunin, associate
director, Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation, and Mrs. Samuel R.. Glo-
gower, chairman of the commit-
tee to review the Federation's
budgeting procedure. Mrs. Ben-
jamin E. Jaffe will chair the
session.
Mrs. Morris Zwerdling, a social
worker, will head the fotrth
session, whose resource panel is
comprised of Huldah Fine, prin-
cipal of Hampton .School; Dr.
Irving Posner, pediatrician, and
Dr. Benjamin B. Stamell, child
psychiatrist, while the discussion
centers on child care under the
title, "The Child is Father to the
Man."
Two seminars will deal with
overseas affairs. One, "Jewish
Horizons Overseas," has Isadore
Sobeloff, executive director of
Jewish Welfare Federation, as a
resource person, while the other
,"The New State Builds," has
Leon Kay, prominent Zionist
leader. The respective chairmen
are Mrs. Arthur I. Gould a n d
Mrs. Julian Tobias.
Mrs. Alexander W. Sanders has
undertaken the chairmanship
for the seventh • seminar, "The
Jewish Heritage Becomes the
Future," dealing with Jewish
education.
At the eighth of these simul-
taneous seminars, Irwin Shaw,
executive director of Fresh Air
Camp, is the local expert to dis-
cuss recreation and group work.
Mrs. Sidney J. Allen is chairing
this session, called "Camping
Unlimited."
The program for the all-day
institute will be concluded with
an afternoon "montage," a dra-
matic presentation written by
Mrs. Joseph G. Fenton and di-
rected by Mrs. Seymour Sim-
ons, beginning at 2 p.m.

ingly successful all-day institu-
tes.
