A NUMBER of years back, a
young lad going to City College
of Detroit (now Wayne Univer-
sity) discovered a desperate need
for funds to continue his educa-
tion . . . He borrowed money
for tuition from the Hebrew Free
Loan Association . . . and from
City College continued on to the
Detroit College of Law . .. To-
day, George Stutz looks back
with a special sort of pride .. .
Not only is he now a highly suc-
cessful attorney . . . but he is
also president of the Hebrew
Free Loan Association.

IN 1924, when Esther Prussian
came here from Boston . . . to
become .director of the Detroit
Service Group . . . there were
scarcely any records listing adult
members of the Jewish com-
munity . . . Now, 25 years later,
the names of almost 50,000 pro-
spective givers to the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign are recorded at
the disposal of this great organ-
ization . . . a wonderful tribute
to the grand job still being done
by Esther . . . as she is honored
on her Silver Anniversary of
service to the community . , .
When the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration was founded in 1926 .
out of the original United Jew-

in the old Hanna Schloss Build-

started a pattern that has been
copied many times over by other
agencies throughout the country.
THE DETROIT SERVICE
GROUP is the campaign arm of
the Federation . . It is com-
posed of all the Trades and Pro-

banner comes the work of so-
