"fosele the Nightingale' Coming Here
Jan. 15 Under Schwartz's Direction

MAURICE SCHWARTZ and ∎OLA SHLIFKO

This season's offering of
Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art
Theater, "Yosele, the Nightin-
gale, by Sholem Aleichem, which
he brings to the Shubert Lafay-
ette Theater for two perfor-
mances only, Sunday, matinee
and evening, Jan. 15, marks an
important event in Jewish-Am-
erican theatrical history. The
Art Theater has commenced a
fourth decade of continuous
theater art.
Owing its existence to the de-
votion and energy of Maurice
Schwartz, its founder and lead-
er, the Art Theater has always
been viewed as a one man in-
stitution. But in the course of
30 years he has trained and de-
veloped an entire generation of
actors. AsSeciated with him were
such artists as Paul Muni, Stella
and Luther Adler, Joseph Bulov,
Michael Rasumny. of Hollywood
and Broadway.
- The Yiddish Art Theater pre-
sented works by Sholem Aleic-
hem and G. B. Shaw, Osyp Dy-
mov, Klabunt Jacob -G ordi n,

Greek Catholic Prelate
Asserts Impossibility
Of UN-Ruled Jerusalem

PITTSBURGH, (JTAl—Arch-
bishop Hakim, Greek Catholic
Archbishop of Acre, Haifa and
Galilee, one of the chief Christ-
ian spokesmen in Palestine, was
quoted here as having asserted
that the internationalization of
Jerusalem was . "an impossibil-
ity" and of having communicat-
ed that information to Pope Pius
XII. •
John Stanley Graul, former
Protestant minister of WorceS-
ter, Mass., speaking before the
national conventions of the Bnai
Brith Young Men and Bnai
Brith Young Women at Hotel
Roosevelt, revealed the substance
of a conversation he had held
with the Archbishop . in Haifa a
few months ago.
"Archbishop Hakim is the
highest religious authority in the
Greek Catholic Church in Pal-
estine," Graul asserted. "The
substance of his remarks to me
were aS•follows: "First, that the
internationalization of Jerusa-
lem was an impossibility; sec-
ond, that he had communicated
this opinion to His Holiness,
Pope Pius; third, that in the
carrying out of his duties of of-
fice, his relationships with the
Israel authorities, especially with
the Minister of Religion, were of
the best."
Graul, who recently returned
here from the Middle East, add-
ed that he agreed with the Arch-
bishop's point of view. "It is im-
possible to impose an interna-
tional regime on a community
which does not and will not
accept such a regime," he de-
clared. "I am convinced that
neither the Jews nor the Arabs
of Jerusalem will retreat one
inch from this stand."

Mrs. Hill Rubin, president of
Women of Gemiluth Chassodim
announces the group's seventh
annual concert will be held Feb.
4 at the Institute of Arts.
A journal will be issued, and
proceeds will go for charity pur-
