David Bussey Heads
Beth Abraham Men

Dr. Hugo Mandelbaum
Designs Young Israel
Ceremonial Objects

At a meeting attended by more
than 150 men, the Men's Club of
Cong. Beth Abraham was laun-
ched Dec. 13.
The first officers elected were:
David W. Bussey, president;
Nathan J. Kaufman, vice-presi-
dent; Irwin I. Chaitin, treasurer;
Sidney Schlaff, recording sec'y.;
Sam Hirschman, financial secre-
tary.
Elected to the executive board
were:
Nathan Strager, Philip Rosen-
zweig, J. Perry, E. Rice, Max
Ellenbogen, William Opperer,
Harry Greenbaum, H. Ribiat,
William Gensener, E. Brown.
Quoting the Club's Constitu-
tion, Kaufman explained that
"the purpose of the Men's Club
is to enlarge and enhance the
activities of the congregation
and 'to foster the highest ideals
of the members to serve Amer-
ica and humanity."

One of the. largest Hanukah
menorahs ever displayed in De-
troit adorned the front of the
Young Israel Youth Center dur-
ing the festival. It will remain
lit over the weekend.
The memorah was designed
and built by Dr. Hugo Mandel-
baum, chairman of educational
activities for the Center. Dr.
Mandelbaum, who specializes in
making ceremonial objects, also
designed the Ark in the Young
Israel synagogue and designed
and made the plaque of the 10
Commandments on the Ark.
He is now working on a design
for the Young Israel emblem
which will be placed on the
building, facing on Dexter Blvd.

Hanukah open house at Beth
Yehudah Schools ended this Fri-
day, when children in Kinder-
garten and nursery classes
staged their weekly Oneg Sab-
bath, setting a traditional Sab-
bath table, blessed the Sabbath
candles and the eighth candle
of Chanukah.
This open house, in the spirit
of Hanukah, the feast of dedi-
cation," said Rabbi M. J. Wohl-
gelernter, president of Beth Ye-
hudah, "has provided the op-
portunity for parents a n d
friends to observe the atmos-
phere and method of our He-
brew and English classes."
The semi-annual oral exam-
ination of all-afternoon Beth
Yehudah classes will be con-
cluded this Friday evening, by
the schools' Vaad Hachinuch
(board of education) headed by
Rabbi Moses Fischer. Prizes will
be awarded to top scholars.

At Hebrew Union College

experts on Biblical literature
and research from all over the

the National Association
of
Biblical Instructors, the Ameri-
can School of Oriental Research
