BARRISTER LEONARD HY-
MAN has become a casualty of
first-time fatherhood . . . Was
running to Harper Hospital after
wife (Geraldine Davidson) re-
cently gave birth to their daugh-
ter . and, in his anxiety to see
her, fell only a few steps away
. . . Mother and daughter are
doing fine . . . but poor daddy
chipped an ankle bone and is
now hobbling about on a cane
. . . "Who says the man doesn't
suffer?" asks Leonard.

MANY OF THE nite-club stars
around town . . . who, this year,
will have to continue their cele-
brating elsewhere after 2 a.m....
will show up at that big party
being planned for New Year's
Eve at Bel-Aire Terrace Room
. . Word has gotten around the
clubs faster than a rabbit with
a hot-foot . . . Artie Fields and
band to furnish the music . . .
and Sammy Woolf as emcee for
the evening already slates the
party as a terrific welcome to
the 1950 baby.

HAROLD FINEGOOD, ace bell-
hop et Hotel Statler, tells of
guest coming to the desk and
asking if there was an Encyclo-
pedia Britannica in the building
. . . "No sir, there isn't" said the
clerk, with polite attention and
regret, "but what is it you wish
to know?"

USED CAR DEALERS Gerry
and Hal Taines have closed their
Livernois lot to become em-
pressarios of the stage ... While
in New York, recently, Gerry
saw the Yiddish stage version of
"Anna Lucasta" . . . and lost no
time in arranging for it to ap-
pear in Detroit, Jan. 1 and 2, at
the Music Hall . . . The presen-
tation is one of the finest com-
bined efforts of the English
and Yiddish theater . . . recom-
mended for all, young and old.

plied, "No, I like it better on the
bone."

15 YEARS AGO, as fine a
bunch of Fairy Godmothers as
ever lent a helping hand in car-
ing for the infants of needy
families, was born into the com-
munity ... Now composed of 150
young married women, most of
them with children of their own,
the grand and glorious Infants
Service Group has Written a re-
cord unmatched in the work to
which it is dedicated ...It would
take a month of complete col-
umns to tell what the girls have .
done and are still doing in the
care .of underprivileged tots .. •
From the time these infants are
born ... until they are two years
old . the wonderful young wo-:
men of Infants Service Group
provide them with every neces-
sity for a healthy and proper
start into the world they have
entered . . . In dedication to the
purpose of their membership,
the ladies work tirelessly in its
behalf .. . sacrificing time with
their families so the needy may
not worry about the infants.

TO MRS. SAMUEL L. MER-
SON, president, and all • the
grand members of the Infants
. Service Group . . ..we humbly
salute you as The Organization
of the Week.
THE ANNUAL dinner-dance

and show "Jamboree" to be pre-
sented . . . Jan. 22 ... at Mason-
ic Temple . . . is the Infants
Service Group's way of gather-
ing funds to continue their great
work.

terfering with traffic . . . after
walking against a red light and
crashing into the side of Gold-

that the poor driver is no longer

OLD I, ki,LEND, JACK STERN-
THAL, one of our favorite trum-
pet players, is back at the haunt
he always seems to return to ...
He is so much in demand that
this is his third appearance at
the Bowery . . . each time with
another band . . . Jack is now
firmly established with Larry
Paige's fine musical aggregation
now playing the nitery . . . and
is regarded among the top trum-.
pet men in the country . . . It's
been many years ago, but we
can still remember Jack as part
of the youthful orchestra that
tried a project of giving dances
at a downtown ballroom . . . We -
were in charge of promotion .. .
and the potential series of dan-
ces ended with the first attempt
. . . All the kids shared in the
profits of that one endeavor .. .
each of us winding up with a big
13 cents . . But we sure got a
lot of fun out of it!
