Northwest Adult
Classes to Open
Tuesday Evening
John Allen, Northwest Syna-
gogue chairman of adult study,
announces that the Northwest
Institute of Adult Jewish Studies
will begin its fourth season
Tuesday evening, Nov. 29. Insti-
tute sessions will be held on
20 consecutive Tuesday evenings,
8 to 10 p.m.
Three new instructors have
been added to the adult study
staff. Albert Elazar will conduct
a lecture on "The Land of Israel
—Its Geography, History, People,
and Politics." Two Hebrew
classes will be offered—the be-
ginners' class to be instructed
by Alex Roberg and the inter-
mediate refresher courses by
Michael Michlin.
At -9 p.m. the students of all
thre classes will asemble in the
chapel for the lecture course, to
be conducted by Rabbi Segal, on
"The Practical Arts of Jewish
Living."
On alternate Tuesday eve-
nings, Rabbi Segal will continue
the Bible lecture course begun
three years ago: "The Bible
Comes to Life."
The Northwest Institute is af-
filiated with the National Acad-
emy of Adult Jewish Studies,
sponsored by the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary. Individual en-
rollment certificates issued by
the Academy will be persented
to each student registering. As-
sisting Allen as co-chairmen are
Mrs. Dave Dunsky, for the Sis-
terhood, and Nate Maxman for
the Men's Club.
There will be no tuition fee. A
nominal registration fee will be
charged to cover incidental ex-
penses. All- men and women in
the community are invited to
join.

The Adult Institute of Jewish
Studies conducted annually by
Cong. Shaarey Zedek opened last
Tuesday evening, Nov. 22. Dr.
Leonard S. Sidlow is chairman of
the committee on education.
With an enrollment of more
than 500 men and women, the
Institute began its sessions with
classes in Hebrew, Yiddish, Bible,
Jewish history, Israel and - con-
temporary Jewish problems. A
special feature of this year's In-
stitute is a series of lectures by
Rabbi Morris Adler on "The Leg-
acy of the Jewish Past."
The faculty of the Institute
includes Rabbis Morris Adler, B.
H. Gorrelick, and Jacob Chinitz,
Ben S. Chinitz, Jay Bodzin, Prof.
Jose-ph W. Eaton, Dr. S. Joseph
Fauman, Dr. Norval Slobin, M.
Goldoftas, Mrs. S. Lehrman, Sol
Panush and Samuel Segal.
Men and women in the com-
munity may still register at the
office of Shaarey Zedek. All
courses are free and are con-
ducted for 20 Tuesday evenings
from 8 to 10 p.m.
