Detroit Jewry Called on to Provide
Housing for DP Refugee Families

Special Jewish Visas -
Issued by Argentina

When a community agrees to
shelter refugee families, the
first problem to be met is hous-
ing.
Until now, the Resettlement
Service, Detroit's Jewish com-
munity agency for aid to refu-
gees, has been able to house the
new arrivals, who have been
coming to this city at the rate
of 10 families monthly. In the
coming year, Detroit will be ac-
cepting three or four times that
number of families every month
and the cooperation of every
member of the Jewish communi-
ty is needed to find apartments,
flats and rooms for the 200
families who represent this city's

BUENOS AIRES, (JTA)—The
first three visas stamped with
the word "Jew" have been issued
to stateless DPs in Europe to
permit them to join their fami-
lies in Argentina, the Organiza-
cion Israelita Argentina, pro-
Peronist Jewish group, a n -
nounced.
The OIA said that stamping
the passports in this manner
was not a form of discrimination
by the Argentine authorities, but
rather a means of providing a
legal form by which statelesss
persons who are Jews may be
permitted to enter this country.
The OIA statement added that a
number of other such visas are
expected to be issued.

arms. The Hebrew inscription
reads: "Joyous holidays, 5710,
Second Year of the State."
