land, will address a community-
wide gathering Wednesday even-
ing. Oct. 5, under the sponsor-
ship of the Council.

Anti-Zionist Jewish
Zeaiofs Approve UN
Plan for Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — A re-
quest that the city of Jerusalem
be internationalized under the
protection of the United Nations
has been forwarded to the UN
by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish
group in this city which is op-
posed to "Zionist political domin-
ation of the Holy Land."
The group, Neturei Kartha
(guardians of the city) has also I
demanded that the members of '
the sect be given international
passports and that the UN ap-
point one or several "responsible'
persons among United Nations
members who will be entrusted
to secure and protect the rights
and interests" of -Orthodox Jews
in Jerusalem. It also asked the
conversion of Jerusalem into a
city where Orthodox Jews "could
,live freely and independently."
The memorandum asserts that
the group has been "generally
opposed to the establishment of
Jewish state, especially under
Zionist. rule" and this point of
view was expressed to the United •
Nations Special Committee on

a

Palestine.

The document, signed by Rab-
bis Amram Blau and Ahron
Katz;enelenbogen, states that
because the Zionism "of today
fully contradicts the divine To-
rah, our spiritual leaders in Pal-
estine and throughout the world
have started to fight Zionist po-
litical domination of the Holy
Land." it added.- that "Zionist
rule of the country" endangers
the Orthodox "since the Zionists
are resolved to root out the re-
ligious basis of Judaism and
change its face." "
Meanwhile, a mass meeting in
Jerusalem held by Herat de-
manded that the "entire city of
David" should become the cap-
ita.' of Israel.

Council 's Jewish Education
Month Committee, have invited
Rabbi Brickner to spearhead the
observance of Jewish Education
Month.
A revised edition of "A Call to
Jewish Parents", a directory of
Jewish educational facilities
available in our community: has
been issued by the Council.
Copies can be obtained by call-
ing or writing the Council.

NEW YORK—A United Press
dispatch of Sept. 16 alleging that
Dr. Nahum - Goldmann, chair-
man of the American Section of
the Jewish Agency Executive had
"urged" at the European Zionist
Conference in Paris that Jews
the world over be granted
"double nationality" to the coun-
try in which they live. and to
Israel, was emphatically denied
by Dr. Goldmann. "I never used
the term 'double nationality'
and I have always been opposed
to that idea," he said. "What I
did state was that every Jew can
ow -a political loyalty only to the
country in which he lives, but
that he should at the same time,
be linked to Israel by moral and
spiritual ties."
