Five Americans are searching the broad 16,000-foot-high
expanse of Mount Ararat (arrow) near the Russian border of
Turkey, to learn if any trace of Noah's Ark is actually there.
DR- AARON J. SMITH, 61, retired, missionary from Greensboro,
N. C., a member of the expedition, says he has sufficient data
to prove the 4391/2-foot-long Ark came to rest on the moun-
tain in the year 2348 B. C. as the Flood subsided. A Russian
aviator who flew over the mountain in 1916 swore he saw
remains of a vessel which fit Biblical description.

Roosevelt 20, covers every
aspect of Roosevelt's life.
It is beautfiully written. and
is typographically splendid. It
deals with Roosevelt's childhood
and school days, his career in
the Navy, his Presidency and the
war.
The reader is introduced to
Roosevelt the marksman, the
philatelist, the farmer; his love
for the sea, his interest in gov-
ernment. There is the story of
his illness and his interest in
the Warm Springs Foundation.
His meetings with Churchill and
Stalin, his activities during the
war and his search for justice
for all mankind are eloquently
LONDON, (JTA)—The failure
of a joint legislative committee
of the House of Lords and Com-

marriage laws to permit Liberal
Jewish Congregations to solem-

pendently of the Orthodox com-
munity has caused disappoint-
ment in Jewish circles.

emphasized.
His first letter, written at the
age of 5, will enchant the read-
ers—young and old.
The book concludes appropri-
ately: "He never let discourage-
ment or weariness or hard work
dim his dream of the Four Free-
doms for the people of the
world: freedom from want ;
freedom from fear, 'freedom of
speech, freedom of religion. And
in the hearts of millions, this
dream lives on."
Rosenblum h a s written a
splendid story. His book will be
treasured by all who possess it
—and it will serve , as an ex-
cellent gift.

Housing for Israel's GIs
NEW YORK (JTA)—A total of
40,000 Jewish immigrants may
enter the United States in 1949
—a greater volume of Jewish
immigration than in any single
year since 1940—it was estimated
by the Institute on Overseas
Studies of the Council of Jewish
Federations and Welfare Funds.
This total coMpares with the
28,000 Jews who entered the
United States under the Truman
Directive during the two-year
period from May, 1946, to June,
1948. The number of Jews ex-
pected to arrive this year under
the DP Law of 1948 is in the
vicinity of 32,000, while the
number of regular quota im-
migrants may reach 7,000, the
Institute said. It added that
predictions for 1950 were of du-
bious value at this time.
Israel May Nationalize
Palestine Potash Firm
.,TEL AVIV, (JTA)—An Israel
Government spokesman refused
to comment on a report of an
inter - ministerial committee
which has suggested that the
privately-owned Palestine Potash
Company be nationalized. Mean-
while, Julius Simon, a director
of the company; has promised
a company statement soon.
The inter-ministerial commit-
tee report charged the company
with inadequate exploitation of
the Dead Sea mineral resources.
The report recommended that a
new company, with the govern-
ment holding a controlling in-
terest, be formed. The commit-,
tee, which drafted the report
after a lengthy survey, was
