HOLLYWOOD-The first year
of Israel's existence as an inde-
pendent state saw considerable
activity in the field of motion
picture production. Several com-
panies have completed films to
their credit and have laid plans
for the future. Most active in
this connection - is Palestine
Films, with offices in Jerusa-
lem, Tel Aviv and New York,
and headed by Norman Lourie
and Joseph Krumgold. Their
first feature, "Dream No More,"
is scheduled for release in Amer-
ica in the fall.
Four other documentaries,
titled "Israel' Reborn" (released
through 20th-Century Fox), "Is-
rael in Action," "Negba" and
"Home Coming 1949" are now in
•istribution. This company has
a number of other documen-
taries in production, particularly
the film "48 Hours a Day" (two-
eler), "Haganah" (two-reeler),
and "Folk Dances of Israel"
(color).
A second company in active
d is Carmel Films,
Ieaded by Nathan Axelrod. This
lleade
company, • with the support of
the Israeli Ministry of Interior,
produces a fortnightly newsreel
titled "Carmel News," exclusive-
ly for distribution in Israel.
A third group, headed by
Joshua Brandstetter, is crystal-
izing plans for the establish-
ment of studio facilities for the
benefit of foreign and local pro-
iucers.
During the year, important
ilrn personalities from Holly-
ood have visited Israel.
Work began on a $600,000 mo-
ion picture studio-Israel's first
in Herzlia, near Tel Aviv. The
0-acre lot will be rented to lo-
•al and foreign producers. The
nterprise, which is linked with
ollywood through an advisory
-ouncil of leading studio per-
onalities, may be used by
American companies who have
,600,000 in earnings frozen there

WARSAW, (JTA)-Five Nazis
and Polish collaborators who
murdered Jews or were respon-

Lwow; Jeshi Gaudyn, a Polish
policeman serving the Nazis who
murdered a Pole who helped
Jews escape the Gestapo; and
three members of a Polish
fascist bandit gang which
preyed on Jews during the Nazi
occupation.
