stand for as long as necessary, "on the scrupulous and pre- honored by being named Chev-
cise observance of the agreements already reached," Aubrey
S. Eban, Israeli delegate to the f•'*,
_
United Nations, told `newsmen.
He also emphasized that while
Israel would welcome the resto-
ration of trade with the Arab
states, it will not sacrifice its
long-term national interests in
the face of a short-term eco-
nomic crisis.
Eban called on the' Security
Council to proceed cautiously in
lifting the terms of its original
truce order, particularly ''that
portion dealing with a Middle
Eastern embargo, insisting that
an armaments race may follow
the lifting of the ban. However,
he quickly pointed out that if
the embargo is annulled and the
Arabs begin to arm heavily,
Israel will "see to its own de-
fense."
He declared that the signing
of armistice pacts between Is-
rael and the various Arab states
amounts to "a provisional peace
settlement" attained by "mutual
agreement under UN auspices."
He pointed out that the armis-
tice pacts "do not separate mill-
tary forces" but "mark the
clearly defined areas of full
civil authority exercised by the
Governments of Israel and the
neighboring states."
"Whether new progress is im-
mediately possible depends up-
on whether direct meetings be-
tween Israeli and Arab repre-
sentatives c a n be arranged.

consultation with American
technical firms and with finan-

with the projected resumption
of operations, revealed that dur-
ing the Arab-Israeli war the
Arab Legion destroyed most of
the corporation's property. The
damage amounted to many mil-
lions of dollars.
Novomeisky reported that the
Jordan Exploration Company,
another enterprise which he
organized in Palestine with a
capital of over $800,000, is mak-

There are plenty of bad driv-
ers to beware of in Detroit, ac-
cording to the • Traffic Safety
Association. The Association has
prepared 1,200 vivid posters
bearing the warning, "Look Out
for That Crazy Driver!" which
are being placed on street-side
standards in Detroit and the
metropolitan area.
The Association says that
every Detroit • driver has had an
experience with a crazy driver
—a driver who is guilty of reck-
less, thoughtless and selfish be-
hind-the-wheel behavior. Too
many of those experiences ended
in accidents and many ended
in death or serious injury.
So far this year in Detroit
there have been nearly 31,000
motor vehicle accidents, about
1,000 more than occurred during

have been injured in these ac-
cidents, nearly 100 fatally.
