Junior Division volunteer

ish Campaign will be • honored
at the annual meeting of the
community service committee of
the Young Adult Council to be
held at 8:30 p.m., June 27, in
the auditorium of the Jewish
Community Center.
The outstanding division of
the campaign will be announced
at the meeting, With a complete
report of the final standings of
all divisions. "The 14 division
chairmen, 84 captains and 650
workers who participated in this
year's Allied Jewish Campaign
all did a fine job and we are
proud to honor them on this
oceasion," Lawrence Feischman,
chairman, said.
In addition to a report on the
campaign, the program of the
past year will be reviewed.
Thirty-six nominees selected
from among the campaign
workers will be elected to the
community service committee.
Dancing will follow the formal
meeting. -

Junior Hadassah's annual
meeting, featuring election and
installation of officers for the
coming year, will be held at a
luncheon at 1 p.m. Sunday, June
19, at the home of Violet Messer,

Mrs. David Zellman, who re-
cently returned from Israel, will
be guest speaker. Greetings from
senior Hadassah will be de-
livered by Mrs. Theodore Barg-
man, president. Presentation of
awards will conclude the pro-
gram.

League Awards
At its first one-day conven-
tion held June 9, at the Book-
Cadillac Hotel, the League of
Jewish Women's Organizations
presented the annual Mildred
Simons Rosenberg Memorial
Award to Suzanna Lasser, 19,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Meyer
Lasser, and Alan Feinberg, 18,
son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. J.
Feinberg, for their outstanding
scholarship a n d community
leadership.
Alan received his religious ed-
ucation at Shaarey Zedek, where
he served as president of the
Junior Congregation, and at
Yeshivah Chaufaitz Chaim in
Baltimore. He has been active in
Young Judaea and Senior
Judaea and served as co-chair-
man of the Judaean movement
in Detroit. He has given a series
of talks on Judaism to Christ-
ian groups, at the request of
the Round Table of Christians,
Protestants and Jews.
After attending Brandeis
Camp this summer, Alan will
matriculate at Kenyon College;
Gambier, 0., where he intends
to major in theological studies
in preparation for the rabbi-
nate.
Suzanna has studied at
Shaarey. Zedek Religious School,
the Midrasha and received priv-
ate Hebrew lessons. She has
been active in Shaarey Zedek
Junior Congregation, Little
Women of Hadassah and Young
Judaea, and served as regional
president of Central States Sen-
ior Judaea. She has selected .in-
ternational law and the diplo-
matic service as her career, hop-
ing to go to Israel. She plans
to study at Cornell University.
Both award winners were ac-
tive at Central High School, at-
taining high scholastic standing
and positions of leadership in
extra-curricular activities,

Has Wide Background in Zionism
Joe Yanich, winner of the
$2,500 scholarships for one year's
study and work in Israel, given
by the Michigan Zionist Region
of the Zionist Organization of
America, acquired his intense
devotion to the Jewish home-
land as a member of a family
which for years has been ac-
tive i,n the Zionist cause.
His father served under Gen-
eral Allenby with the Jewish
IZFA and the Hillel Foundation.
He was treasurer, vice-presi-
dent and then president of the
Hillel executive council between
1945 and 1947; treasurer a n d
president of the Wayne IZFA be-
tween September, 1946 and June,
1948; a member of the IZFA
national committee from '47 to
'49 and national IZFA conven-
tion chairinan in 1948.
Last January Yanich received
his bachelor's degree in sociol-
ogy from Wayne and became or-
ganizational supervisor of De-
troit Young Judaea. His other
Zionist activities have included
the Brandeis Camp Institute,
Young Zionists' Actions C'orn-
mittee, Detroit Zionist Youth
CommisSion and Jewish Nation-
al Fund Council.
He has taught religious school
classes at Northwest Hebrew
Congregation and Temple
Israel and was a counselor at
the Jewish Center's Camp Hab-
onim and at Herz]. Camp. •
