Mr. Moss is the first Jewish
member of the Board of Phar-
macy ever to be appointed in
the State of Michigan.

At a recent meeting of the
newly organized Gold Star
Fathers of the Jewish War Vet-
erans of Michigan, Meyer Silver-
' man was elected temporary
president; Sam Lieberman, vice
president and Leo Grossman,
secretary.
The executive committee con-
sists of Sam Boim, Sam Eserow,
J. Goldberg, J. Newmark and
Isaac Rosenthal.
The group has been organized
to assist the JWV in the plan-
ning of an appropriate memo-
rial to the more than 300 Jewish
war dead in Michigan.
Meyer Silverman said : "This
group brought together by un-
fortunate fate can develop in-
to the most influential Jewish
group in the community. We
are Gold Star Fathers, and it is
our duty to help make this com-
munity a better place in which
to live and prevent any roots of
Anti-Semitism." He also noted
this community has a greater
number of deceased Jewish war
heroes in proportion to the
Jewish - population than any
other group.
The next meeting of the Gold
Star Fathers will be held at the
Jewish Center at 8:30 p.m., Tues-
day, May 24. At this meeting
charter membership cards will be
distributed. Gold Star Fathers
are urged to attend this meet-
ing.
This group is the first Jewish
Gold Star Father organization
in the United States.

Elects New Officers
At the annual meeting of the
Parent - Teachers Oorganization
of the Philadelphia-Byron
Branch of the United Hebrew
Schools. the following officers
were elected:
President. Mrs. Jack Kaplan:
vices-president, Mrs. A. Koligow-
sky; secretary, Mrs. L. Pierce;
treasurer, Mrs. Jessie Silver;
program chairman, Mrs. J. Car-
ney: delegates to the Central
Parent - Teachers Council: Mrs.
P. Kasky and Mr. L. Pierce.
The Parent-Teachers Organi-
zation is divided into seven
groups according to the seven
branches of the schools. Each
group has its own officers and
functions according to the needs
of its particular school. There
is a Parent - Teachers Council
consisting of representatives of
all the groups. President of the
council is also Mrs. Jack Kap-
lan, president of the Philadel-
phia-Byron Branch.

Mrs. Hyman Altman, who for
more than 20 years assisted her
late husband in Yiddish radio
broadcasting, will return to the
air, on Station WJLB, for regu-
lar broadcasts_on Saturday night
and Sunday noon.
Mrs. Altman announced her
previous contributions of time
for community services will be
repeated on her hour and that
she will serve all worthy causes
during her broadcasts from 9 to
10 p.m. on Saturdays and 11:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.
John L. Booth, president of
Booth Radio Stations, an-
nounced Tuesday that effective
May 21, Radio Station WJLB will
broadcast programs designed for
the following nationalities in
their native tongues: Polish,
Italian, Jewish, Greek, German
and Lithuanian.
In the interest of service,
common understanding, good
citizenship and as a contribution
toward world. peace, Booth Ra-
dio Stations states that it is
making WJLB available as a
means of expression, education.
and entertainment to these for-
eign language groups and par-
ticularly to those of foreign
lands who recently made De-
troit their new American home.
WJLB will be the only Detroit
standard broadcasting station
broadcasting foreign languages
in America's third largest for-
eign speaking area.
