Mother's Camp
Registration Open

Mort Goodman of the Jewish
Community Center staff and
1949 director of Camp Chelsea
announces that registration for
the mothers' and children's
camp will begin May 16.
Appointments for registration
may be made by calling. Mrs.
Markowitz, at MA. 8400,
The first session of the 1949
season will b'e from July 3 to
July 17.. The last session will
close Aug. 27:
Camp Chelsea, for adult wom-
en, mothers and children from
three to eight, is located at
Grass Lake, Mich. Trained
counselors and assistants plan
the activities. A trained resident
nurse and a physician-on-call
serve the health needs of the
campers. The food is prepared
in a kosher kitchen.- Sabbath
services are conducted regularly.
For the adult campers there
is a program of nature study
hikes, trips, discussions, parent
education, musicales, dramatics,
arts and crafts, community sing-
ing, campfires, swimming, boat-
ing and picnics. With the gui-
dance and Cooperation of a pro-
fessional counselor, a self-gov-
erning Mothers' Council plans
these activities.

Samuel H. Rubiner, retiring
president of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, will be the prin-
cipal speaker at the 15th annual
meeting of the Center Sunday
evening, May 15, in the audi-
torium of the Aaron DeRoy Me-
morial Building, Woodward and
Holbrook. -
Mr.. Rubiner has been president
since 1945. His address "The Cen-
ter, Today and Tomorrow," will
review the Center's progress dur-
ing his tenure . and ' the trends
he foresees for the future. A
combined board and staff- din-
ner prior to the open public
meeting will honor Mr. Rubiner
and staff members who have
served the Center for 10 years
o, more.
According to Mrs. William B.
Isenberg of the Center board,
chairman of the dinner com-
mittee, Dr. Harry E. August will
preside as toastmaster of the
dinner. The program will in-
clude remarks by Mr. Rubiner,
Yehuda Rosenman for the staff,
Herman Jacobs as executive di-
rector, and community. singing
led by Julius Chajes.
Guests of honor at the din-
ner will be Isidore Sobeloff, ex-
ecutive director of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, and Robert
H. McRae, managing director of
the Community Chest of metro-
politan Detroit.
The public meeting in the eve-
ning will have a special program
arranged by a committee head-
ed by Paul Broder and Mr.
Rosenman. It will feature a pic-
torial review of the Center dur-
ing the past 15 years, narrated
by Reuben Weiss, actor and 'di-
rector.
The business part of the pub-
Pc meeting will be the election
of new officers, headed by Mor-
ris Garvett for the presidency.

UHS Auxiliary Plans
Election for May 18

The annual election of officers
of the Women's Auxiliary, Unit-
ed Hebrew Schools, will be held
at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18,
at the Rose Sittig Cohen. Bldg.
A dessert luncheon will precede
the program.
Mrs. Albert Elazar, program
chairman, announces that Mrs.
Herman Wetsman will read a
psalm. Greetings will be ex-
tended by Bernard Isaacs of the
schools. Mrs. Harry Oberstein
will present a book talk.
