On Israeli Experiences

(Editor's Note: The following report
has been received by The Jewish News
from Mr. Marwil, prominent Detroit
Zionist who is presently visiting in Israel
with Mrs. Marwil).

JERUSALEM.—We have just
returned from Rabbi Berlin's
funeral. Thousands of people
folowed the bier on foot, from
the home of the deceased leader
in Rehavia up the road past the
- Jewish Agency building, the Miz-
rachi and Jeshurun Synagogues,
and then to the cemetery.
First, there were young boys,
three abreast, about 100 of
them keeping perfect step, then
the same number of girls. After
them were dozens of rabbis,
chanting prayers, then the body.
This procession took over an
hour to reach the Jeshurun Syn-
agogue, as every few minutes
the procession stopped for the
chanting of prayers.
We were in Jerusalem for
Passover and plan to tour the -

PRAGUE (JTA)—The Israeli
legation here announced that

Allied Jewish Campaign, the
Dentists Section met at a cock-
tail party at the home of Dr.
Abe Pearlman, for solicitation
and for distribution of prospect
slips. •
Members of the section, which
has achieved an average in-\
crease over 1948 contributions of
more than 20 percent, are led
by Dr. Martin Naimark. Work=
ing with Dr. Naimark are Drs. Si
Berent, Gerson Berris, Joe Cab-
ot, Ben Fader, Jack Lawson,
'Herbert Lee, Frank Reisman
and Bernard Schmidt.

Halevy Singing, Society for its
first radio program, broadcast
Last • Sunday, at 6:30 p.m., over
Station WKMH, is assuring the

success of this project, Dr.- Wil-
liam Klein, Halevy president,
stated this week.
The program will continue
this Sunday, under the direction
. of Moe Kesner. Felix Resnick
directs the double quartet of
Halevy singers. The symphonic
trio appearing on this program
includes Elya Stuilman, violinist,
Eliza Stullman, pianist, and a
third musician, to be announced.
Boris Joffe will broadcast the
news, compiled by The Jewish
News.
Wayne Laundry sponsors this
program.

Country Day Camp Has
Pre-Season Opening

Country Day, camp, under the
direction of Dr. W. A. Goldberg,
will have a pre-season open
house at its new location, on its
own farm, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on Sunday, May 15.
The Camp, at 48441 W. 13 Mile
Road, is reached by driving out
Grand River to Wixom Road
(Mich. #218), right one mile,
right again on 13 Mile Road to
the camp.
Country Day Camp will hav6
an extensive program of crafts,
arts, dramatics, athletics, na-
ture study and special trips.
The campers will be picked- up
near their homes five days week-
ly and returned home each eve-
nir:;, Activities are planned to
serve boys and girls 5 to 13.

German Major Jailed
For Part in Pogroms '
MUNICH, (JTA)—Lorenz Zah-
neisen, former mayor of Bam-
berg and district chief of the
Nazi Party, was sentenced to
four years imprisonment for
participating in the notorious
programs of Nov. 10, 1938.
