Williams Pledges Aid
To End Discrimination
At Student Conferenbe
"Discrimination can't stand in
the light of reason," said Gov. G.
Mennen Williams at the close of
the three-day human relations
clinic last week-end at Wayne
University.
"I am sympathetic to a realistic
approach and will do my best to
get rid of discrimination in the
State as soon as possible," the
Governor told 136 student dele-
gates attending the clinic from
Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois,
New York and Connecticut.
National Student Association
president Ted Harris empha-
sized that the most effective
technique in meeting the chal-
lenge of discrimination is per-
sonal contact with other groups.
"We must think less in terms of
last resorts," he said, "and stay
away from the use of • such an-
tagonistic words as 'fight' and
battle'."
Sponsored by the National
Student Association, a non-
sectarian, non-political student
organization representing 289
colleges, in colaboration with the
Committee on Intercultural Re-
lations at Wayne University, the
clinic is the first of its kind held
by NSA in the United States.
"We feel we have taken an-
other significant step forward in
our aim of developing student
responsibility," concluded Eu-
gene Schwartz, NSA vice presi-
dent. Harvey Weisberg of Detroit
