On the Home Front
The UPA is ill the process of reorganization . . Forty per
cent of the governing bodies will be filled by representatives of
the welfare funds . . . Poale Zion and Hadassah, I learn, will con-
test the ZOA claim to "a majority among the remaining sixty per
cent . . ..Pressure will be exerted on Silver to again assume the
presidency of the ZOA . . . Thus far pr. Silver has been adamant
. . . He has had four gruelling years of an arduous and militant
effort . . . The other candidates are Rabbi Irving Miller, Mortimer
May and Daniel Frisch . .. Dewey Stone, candidate for the Pro-
gressive Zionists, has impressed Zionists with his solidarity and
fairmindedness . . . He is liked for his human qualities and sin-
cerity . . . Frisch for quite a few months has made strenuous efforts
to win adherents . .. He has been more energetic and persistent,
than any other candidate.
Young and able Harold. P. Manson, the Jewish Agency's pub-
licity. man, -has been one of the victims of Morgenthau's victory
over Silver . . . He has been replaced by Victor Bernstein, formerly -
of PM and Star . . . Bernstein. has background and competence.
Silver and Neumann intend to concentrate on the Israel Cor-
poration . . . They won't ignore the rich, but will concentrate on
the man in the street . . . The American Zionist Emergency Council
will not be dissolved.
