Bunche Says Palestine War Is Over,
`Jewish State Firmly Established'
—International Photo
Acting mediator for the United Nations in Palestine, DR. RALPH
J. BUNCHE (right), is shown as he met DAVID BEN GURION, Israel's
Prime Minister, for a conference in Tel Aviv. Dr. Bunche asked for
Israel's admission into the UN.
Mr. Bunche, upon his return from Israel on Sunday, stated that
the Palestine war is over and that "the Jewish State is firmly estab-
lished and the immigration problem is well on its way to a solution."
He said that any further fighting will be local and sporadic and that
he sees a "great future" for Israel "with friendly 'relations between
Israel and the neighboring Arab states." He added that Israel's citrus,
textile and diamond-cutting industries have particularly bright futures.
