Rabbis Hail Religious
Tie of U. S., Israel

NEW YORK — The establish-
ment of close ties between the
Jewish communities in America
and the Chief Rabbinate of Is-
rael, headed by Chief Rabbi Dr.
Isaac Halevy Herzog, was hailed.
as epoch-making and as a sta-
bilizing factor in the interpreta-
tion of Judaism for American
Jewry by Dr. Israel Tabak, presi-
dent of the Rabbinical Council of
America.
He revealed the exchange of
"correspondence between the Chief
Rabbinate of Israel and the Rab-
binical Council and said: "Un-
like the Catholic hierarchy, this
religious authority would be
analogous in Jewish religious law
to the Supreme Court of the
United States in civil law."

Prayer Objectionable to
Jews Changed by Vatican

NEW YORK (JTA) — The
Latin phase "per-fidi iudaei" in a
Roman Catholic prayer which in
some translations has been ren-
dered as "perfidious Jews" has
been changed to a form less ob-
jectionable to Jews, it was an-
nounced here this week by the
National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews.
The Conference announced
that it had received a clarifica-
tion from the Sacred Congrega-
