That was the beginning of a
merger that was to become one
of the . most famous in Detroit
. . . Last week, the two partners
capped the six-year-old relation-
ship by opening what is being
acclaimed the most lavish eating
place in town . . . and one so
beautiful that people coming in
have a hard time keeping their
minds on food.

STORY HE HEARD at a met-
ing, is told by Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer . . about Chicago gang-
ster who was taken for a ride,
riddled with bullets and tossed
out of the car, dead as a stuffed
mackerel . . . Body was brought
back for last rites . .. The poor,
underground minister engaged to
officiate at the services, began to
speak, "Our good brother who
lies in that coffin is not dead—
he's asleep" ... and a voice from
the back cried out, "S500 says
he's dead!"

OPENING DATE for the new
Brothers eatery on Livernois at
Seven Mile . . . is scheduled for
Nov. 16 . . . with the grand open-
ing to be Nov. 22 . . . The glam-
orously beautiful new place is,
as Billy Rose would put it,
"From out of this hemisphere!"

soon become a reality . . . thanks
to the women of Zedakah . .
with whose aid her hospitaliza-
tion is being made more com-
fortable . . . She'll write her
experiences in a sanitorium and
the popular community group
will play a major role in the
success of her endeavors as an
authoress. Mrs. Max Elias is
president of Zedakah . • . an
organization that was formed 27
years ago by Mrs. Ben Jacobs
. . with eight young women
meeting at her home to make
diapers for needy mothers . . .
All eight are still with the group
. . . which now has 165 members.
The only major fund-raising af-
fair of Zedakah is scheduled for

tions regarding Israel . . . Dr.
Joseph Eaton of Wayne Univer-

be a Zionist" . . . and clarified
the giggle-getting statement by
telling of the things the Arab

WELL TEAM WITH Jimmy
Laker, Bnai Brith leader, and
Mort Goodman, intermediate di-
rector of Jewish Center . . . in

STUNT NITE was started by
Leonard Belove when he became
AZA director in 1940 .. . In the
eight years, talent shown by
members has warranted well-
earned applause . . . Many still
remember the magnificent "Min-
strel Show" put on in '44 by Rex
No. 309 . . . To this day it is con-
sidered a model for many of the
participating groups.
