JDC's 34th Annual Meeting to Hear
Lilienthal, Haber and Warburg
"Europe's Jews Face ' the Fu-
ture" will be the topic of the .
34th annual meeting of the Joint
Distribution Committee; major
American agency - aiding ' dis-
tressed Jews abroad, in the Pal-
mer Hodse, Chicago, this Sunday
afternoon, Oct. 31. .
The meeting, which will be
open to the public, is expected
to draw more than 2,000 Jewish
leaders and representatives from
all parts of the country. They
will hear featured addresses by
three outstanding speakers:
David E. Lilienthal, chair-
man of the U. S. Atomic En-
ergy Commission; Dr. William
Haber, adviser on Jewish Af-
fairs to the American Military
Government in Germany; and
Edward M. M. Warburg, JDC
chairman.
No funds will be solicited at
the meeting, it was explained,
since JDC receives its funds
through the nationwide United
Jewish Appeal.
Meeting in parallel. sessions
Saturday night will be leaders
of JDC's Youth DiVision Ad-
visory Council, and JDC's SOS
(Supplies for Overseas Sur-
vivors) Collection.

chairman of the campaign.

threatening attitude of the Ger-
mans toward the Jewish and
non-Jewish DPs is reported in
the Kurier Codzienny, local Pol-
ish-language daily.

Committee in Chicago will be
heard on the "Message of Israel"
program over the ABC network
this Sunday morning. ,
Titled "Report on the DP' ,
the program will feature talks y

Problem: Dr. William Haber, ad-
viser, on.Jewish Affairs to the U.
S: Military Government in Ger-
many, and Rabbi Philip H. Bern-
stein; who preteded Dr. Haber in
this•post. The program, which is
conducted by Rabbi Jonah P.
Wise, JDC vice chairman, will be
heard from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
'No' Vote Urged by
Congress on the
Callahan Measure
JOSEPH S. LERNER
An urgent appeal was made
this week by the Michigan Com-
cil of the American Jewish. Con-
gress that voters should oppose
the Callahan Bill, which has been
placed on the ballot at the Nov. 2
election.
Albert Silber, president of the
Michigan AJC Council, pointed
out that this measure is a threat
to civil liberties. It is listed as
Proposal No. 6 on the ballot and
voters are urged to marked the
ballot NO as a guarantee that the
measure will bes defeated.
The JeWish Community Coun-
cil is included among organiza-
tions cooperating with the Ameri-
can Jewish Congress in opposing
the Callahan measure and in
urging voters to defeat it at the
polls next Tuesday.

New York and • director of the
historic JWB survey.
The opening session of the con-
ference will include graphic pres-
entations of National Jewish Wel-
fare Board services to the local
Jewish community through its
Center.
The Sunday morning session at
the Jewish Community Center,
will be concerned with Center
programs and problems. - The
concluding luncheon session will
hear Dr. Janowsky and Louis
Kraft, general secretary of JWIt's
national council.
A board of governors' dinner,
to be held Saturday evening, will
honor the presidents who served
during the first decade of the
midwest section, including .Henry
Meyers of Detroit.
Delegates from Colorado, Illi-
nois, Indiana, Michigan, Missonri,
Minnesota, Kentucky, Ohio, Iowa,
Wisconsin, Nebraska, West Vir-
ginia, and Western Pennsylvania
will attend the section confer-
ence.

Zionist Organization of America;
to be held in Atlantic City, Nov.
5 to 9, making the annual con-

history, according to Mrs. David
B. Greenberg, of New York,

Philadelphia, co-chairman. The
delegates will be asked to ap-
prove a $5,935,000 budget for the

in 1912; making it -36 years old,
