Form Detroit Committee to Support
Bicur -Cholim Jerusalem Hospitals
Rabbi Moses Wertheimer of
Jerusalem, an explorer of Jew-
ish manuscripts, arrived in De-
troit last week to secure sup-
port here for the 7alestine Unit-
ed Charity Institutions.
Rabbi *Wertheimer points out
that the budget for th..se institu-
tions this year includes large
sums for the Bicur Cholim Hos-
pitals which are functioning full
force in the present Israeli crisis.
The previous budget of $400,-
000 has been increased for this
year to $500,000, he pointed out.
He said that while half of last
year's needs were filled by Pal-
estinian Jews and $200,00.0 came
from the United States, it is nec-
essary that larger sums should
be given by Jews of this country
because of the burdens that pre-
vent Jews in Eretz Israel from
making contributions equal to
those in the past.
Rabbi Wertheimer said that in
addition to the Bicur Cholim
Hospitals the United Charity In-
stitutions also support the Etz
Chaim Torah Centers, 13 Talmud
Torahs, two Yeshivoth and other
affiliated agencies.
The Bicur Cholim Hospitals
are staffed by eminent, physicians
and the chief of ths., medical staff
is the world famous physician,
Dr. Herman Zondek, who also
was in charge of Hadassah hospi-
tals.
Checks for the United Charity
Institutions are being accepted
by Rabbi Wertheimer at 4212
Duane, WE. 4-8573, and the Vaad
HaYeshivoth, 9105 Linwood.
A Detroit committee is being
organized to assist Rabbi Werth-
eimer in his solicitations.
He
plans to remain here for a month.
