WHEN BBYO PARADE ended,
last week, at corner of Dexter
and Boston . . Hy Horeristein,
who works about 17 . hours a day,
was sound asleep in his car back
of the delicatesSen. . . . Huge
booming of drums . intermingled
with loud clamor of voices from
public address system were just
enough to awaken Hy . . . who,
hurriedly . . . and still half-asleep
. . ran into his store, yelling,
"Lock all the doors!"
THE CAR WE WERE in with
advisor Max Kushner, ran out of
gas . . and threatened to hold
up the procession . .. Bob Burk,
president of Rex No. 11, and one
of the clowns, ran over to a
nearby gas station to bring back
a gallon in record time. . . . The
boys chauffering the car breathed
a sigh of relief (along with Max
and the writer) . . . It was "Get
going or get out and push!"
WHAT WAS TO BE the humor,-
highlight of the parade ... took
place somewhere else, instead .. .
Morris Last and Aubrey Diem
were to have driven a horse and
carriage . . . but the nag was
temperamental . . and bolted
so much she broke the wooden
side-hitches . • . Morris and
Aubrey were next seen taking
her back to the stable . . . riding
bareback down Woodward Ave;!

NATE FELSENFELD is the
new chairman of the board of
directors of Social, Inc... . Bill
Zolkower and Al Raskin are co-
vice chairmen . . . Jewel Green-
span is rec. sec., Shirley Dubrin-
sky, cor. sec.,- and Hershel Lewis
remains treasurer. . . . We as-
sume role of advisor to ;the or-
ganization whose main 'purpose
is the promotion of friendlier re-
lationship through better social
activity among Jewish young
adults in Detroit.

BIG FIGHT that took place in
community on night of Rosh
Hashanah . . was another act
on part of fellows from another
neighborhood . . . who drive to
a point in the Jewish community
and start uprisings on holidays.
. . . We remember time, some
years back, when a group of
hoodlums came into a restaurant,
picked a fight with the few fel-
lows there . . . beat up the young
lads who were sitting peacefully
in the place. . . . Last Week the
police arrested three of the
"hoods."

YOUNG PEOPLE'S CLUB of
Northwest Hebrew Congregation
will try something that merits
cooperation. . . They'll conduct
services . . . once a month, on
Friday night . .. in Hebrew and
English . . . with their own
choral group. . . . All Jewish
youth will be invited.

MYRON "JOE" GINSBERG,
new Detroit Tiger catcher, tells
us a favorite story that still
makes the rounds of ballplayers
in both the Major and Minor
Leagues. .. . Shortly after Hank
Greenberg had broken into the
regular lineup with the Tigers,
the Philadelphia Athletics came
to town to play a series. . . .
George Moriarty was umpiring
behind the plate . Greenberg
took two terrific cuts at the first
two pitches offered him, and let
the third one float by . . . "Strike
three, you're out," said Moriarty
. . . Greenberg turned indignant-
ly, "You missed that one,
George." . . "Well, you missed
the other two," Moriarty replied,
"You're still one up on me."
NO CONNECTION to the
above story . • . at least, we
don't think so . . . but Greenberg
is generally given credit for a
definition about an umpire being
a retired baseball player whose
eyesight begins to fail him.
• * *
COMMUNITY SCENE . . .
Drummer-boy Mark Fisher doing
his wonderful card magic be-
tween dance sets at Ted Lipsitz
nitery sitting at table with

folks who down the hard stuff
with eager rapidity . while he
just makes his milk. . . . That
restaurant on Dexter Blvd.
they're saying was open on Rosh
Hashanah nite . . . and crowded
too! . . • . Mrs. J. Bernstein and
two daughters, feeding carrots
to rabbits kept in stall of a
Livernois used car lot that gives
a bunny with every purchase.
. . . The all-of-a-sudden bit of
snobbery by a newly-wed couple
whose hoped-for rise on the social
ladder doesn't include the friends
who gave them their first foot-
hold! . . . Like all the others,
they'll soon learn that snobbery
is only the pride of those who
are not sure of their position.
. . . Alice Sobel watching the
seams of her home open wide
. . . as YPS of Shaarey Zedek
holds Rosh Hashanah party . . .
attended by practically everyone
who didn't get an invite! . . .
Those who did had to huddle in
corners and wait until the crowd
thinned out before making men-
tion about being there! . . . Iry
Jaffe, local nitery owner, having
bagels after hours with wife, Ruth
. . . who stows the last one in
her purse as Iry mentions about
times being rough. . . . They're
not that bad . . . especially not
in his fine Park Ave. spot.
* * *
LOU SCHWARTZ, the linoleum
gent, tells of being on golf course
with fellow who placed the ball
in position . . . missed three
times .. . hit it the fourth time
. . . and then turned to him and
said, "This is really a hard course,
isn't it?"
* * *
DISA 'N DATA . . Jerry
Hershenson, 15 year old commu-
nity lad, is destined for stardom
in theatrical world. . . . His danc-
ing ability is being lauded as that
of "another Fred Astaire." . . •
Lives at 15550 Linwood. . . . Old
friend, Sam Dictor, was host to
West Coast Division of Jewish
Youth Council . . for week at
his Camp Kiowa in California.
. . The former Detroiter has
been making great time with his
comparatively new enterprise .. .
and was chosen from among the
many others as the one to be
used this year, for the annual
session of that group. . . . Mickey ,
Woolf, the music man, -and wife,
Evelyn, came out of restaurant,
recently . . . opened door of car
. . . and found drunk sprawled
across the front seat. . . . He
called police . . . squad car came
. . . and cops removed the non-
member of Alcoholics Anonymous
. . . telling Mickey that if he
appeared in court the following
morning, he might get compen-
sated for damage done. . . . He
got up very early . . . went there

there are enough houses of prayer
