To Farband Folk Schools
Chosen, Gifts Made
In Detroit Aid-to-Israel Drive
Farband Camp devoted Sun-
day, Aug. 8, to a program on the
Farband Folk. Schools. Students,
campers, teachers and community
leaders participated.
Harold Silver, executive direc-
tor of the Jewish Social Service
Bureau, featured speaker, pointed
out the necessity of protecting
the future of the Jewish child of
today through Jewish education.
Nachman Draehler, camp direc-
tor, also spoke. _ -
Students in the program in-
cluded Norman Rotenberg, Wil-
- bert Blake, Albert Yuzpe, Phyllis
Lipson and Ephraim Milinsky.
Farband - campers have been
made conscious of community
responsibilities by campaigns for
the United Jewish Appeal, Jewish
National Fund and Histadrut.
Adult education programs have
featured a number of •guest speak-
ers, including Arthur Shutkin,
JNF executive director; Yehudab
Rosenman, Jewish Center young
adult director, and Silver.

Israel, program which started
Aug. 5 has gained a tremend-
ous momentum with business
groups, lodges and organizations
participating.
The drive, under the sponsor-
ship of Greater Detroit Bnai
Brith Council, is for non-com-
batant materials, clothing, food,
medical supplies, jeeps, ambul-
ances, etc: The goal is set for a
100-carload Friendship Train.
An honorary committee for the

Educational Leaders
Mourn Dr. Ben Edidin
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Leaders
of major Jewish educational in-
stitutions attended funeral serv-
ices here for Dr. Ben Edidin, as-
sistant director of the Jewish
Education Committee of this city
and a noted author on education-
al subjects, who died after an
illness of several months at the
age of 48. Messages of condol-
ence were issued by the Jewish
Education Committee, the Zion-
ist Organization of America, the
Histadruth Ivrith and the United
Parent-Teachers Association of
Jewish Schools.
Dr. Edidin, was born in Russia
and came to the United States
at the age of 12. He received
his A.B. at the University of
Wisconsin and a Doctor of Edu-
cation degree at the University
of Buffalo. He was a member of
the board of education in Tel
Aviv from 1935-37 and - director
of the Bur_eau of Jewish Educa-
tion in Buffalo. Surviving are
his wife, the former Dorothy
Edelman of Chicago, and a
daughter. •
