Announcement was made this
week that Harry Schumer has
assumed the chairinanship for
this year's labor Zionist drive
for the Jewish. National Fund.
A portion of the income in the
drive, whose 1948 quota has been
set at $50,000, ' will be used to
complete the William and Bella
Hordes Forest in Lsrael.
Schumer this week expressed
the hope that there will be a
prompt community-wide response
to help complete the project this
year. Pointing to the sacrifices
being made to assure the settle-
ment of tens of thousands of DPs
in Israel, and to bring the in-
ternees out of Cyprus, Mr. Schu-
mer said that large stretches of
land have to be redeemed and
made the inalienable property
of the entire Jewish people and
that this is a job to be fulfilled
immediately.
Contributions for the labor
Zionist JNF project are being
taken at the Labor Zionist Insti-
tute and JNF headquarters.
