Stirred by the eloquent appeal
of Mrs. Archibald Silverman, who
admonished her audience that

Israel can we hope for peace and
safety. for Jews everywhere, an
audience of nearly 500 on Mon-
day evening launched the annual
labor Zionist Jewish National
Fund project, at the Shaarey
edek.
The event marked the con-

Harry Schumer, and the begin-
ning of the project for the Hordes
Forest, in honor of Mr. and Mrs:

Mr. Schumer was presented

Responding to the presentation,
Mr. Schumer pledged all his ef-

ment in the national elections;
nine of them are members of the
United Party and one is a mem-
ber of the Labor Party. Both
these political groups supported
Field Marshal Smuts who, only
several days ago, announced the
recognition of Israel by his goV-
ernment. The 10 Jews elected in-
clude Mrs. Bertha Solomon, Mor-
