text of the resolution follows:
"In the. death of Fred M. But-
zel, the American Jewish corn-
munity has lost one of its truly
distinguished sons. We of Detroit
who were privileged to have
known intimately his activities
and accomplishments, have sus-
tained an irreparable loss. His
passionate devotion to - Jewish in-
terests, the sincerity and breadth
of his convictions, his essential
humility and humanitarianism,
shall forever stamp the stature
of the man in .the memory and
the heart of the people and com-
munity he served.
"On behalf of the organizations
we represent, we, the delegates of
the Jewish Community Council
of Detroit, our officers and our
staff, express our profound grief
At his passing. We convey our
sincere sympathy to his family
and dedicate ourselves to search
out and achieve for Detroit's
_ Jewish community the inherently
dignified and self respecting way
of life that Fred M. Butzel's days
on this earth symbolized. This
• we are convinced, is the kind of
memorial he would have chosen."

Sidney Shevitz recently elected
president of the Zionist Council,
addressed the delegates briefly
on the importance of the State-
hood of Jsrael, stressing the new
responsibilities to the Jews of
Detroit, recognized by the forma-
tion of a new body for joint
action in this field. The new
group, ,composed of the "Zionist
Emergency Council and the, Jew-
ish Community Council, -will con-
cern itself with the interpreta-
tion of the meaning of statehood
both ."to the Jewish community
and the public at large.

Friendship Train
Rolls for Israel

A Friendship Traisn has been
started rolling in Detroit . to
meet the urgent' demands from
Israel for supplies of _food, cloth-
ing, linens and medical necessi-
ties. Hapoel Hamizrachi, Miz-
rachi Organizations, Synagogue
Groups' and Young Israel have
joined this nationwide emer-
gency drive upon the special ap-
peal of the World Union of Re-
ligious Zionist Pioneer and La-
bor Organizations. The cam-
paign is designed to alleviate
the plight of the immigrants
who are arriving daily from
DP camps of Europe and Cy-
prus, for those who have been
evacuated or forced to 'flee from
the danger zones during the
present emergency and for fam-
ilies who have had to leave
their homes in the Arab sec-
tions.
Rabbi Irwin Gordon is chair-
man of the Detroit Friendship
Train for Israel campaign.
Headquarters are at 4841 Second

Spearheading the drive of the
Friendship Train for Israel, the
Detroit Hapoel Hamizrachi has
called a special mobilization
meeting for 9 p.m. Monday at
Young Israel Synagogue of
Y'eshivath Beth Yehudah.

by a Red Army court to 15 years
imprisonment on the charge that

Monday evening at 8:30, Pisgah
Lodge of Bnai Brith will install
its newly elected officers in the
main auditorium of the Jewish
Community Center. The public is
invited to the installation cere-
mony, program of entertainment
and social hour.
Victor Bromfield was elected
president of the Lodge; Harry
Schwartz and Alfred Bounin,
vice presidents; Sam Atlas, treas-
urer; Morris Shatzen, Archie
Kacher, secretaries; Meyer Lei-

Boigan, warden, and Phil Lee-

A SATISFIED

Under the . guidance of Abe
Riskin, newly elected president
of the Flint District of the Zion-
ist Organization of America,
and Rabbi Hurwitz, retiring
president, the Flint District •
signed up 100 new members in a
one-day membership campaign
June 10.
After the membership break-
fast which Max Gross, of t h e
Israel equipment project, ad-
dressed, 10 teams of member-
ship workers began solicitation.
Most reports indicated " that
there was little difficulty in
signing up members,- as a result
of the preliminary letters sent
out to the Jewish people of
Flint.
Nathan Finkelstein, treasurer
of the Flint District, reports
that the Flint membership is
now approximately 300, t h e
largest in its history.
