To Wed This Fall
On the Record
By HAL BRUSS
Richard Tucker, whose record-
ing of "Eili Eili" and "Kol Nid-
re" has become ,one of the best
sellers at the stores, has released
a new album of "Cantorial
Jewels." The presentation of six
inspiring songs of faith with an
orchestra under • the direction of
Sholom Secunda is probably one
of the best we have heard yet.
RCA Victor's album of "Pray-
ers and Songs for the Sabbath"
by Rabbi . Stephen Wise, in
English, are impressive. The Free
Synagogue Choir with Evelyn
Sachs and Lawrence Davidson
present a beautiful rendition of
the Sabbath music.
Because of the great amount
of broken - records in the chil-
dren's nursery rhymes and
stories, most of the record com-
panies are starting to manufac-
ture the kiddies' sets on unbreak-
able plastic discs.
Many Jewish record fans have
received a great deal of. listening
pleasure from Cantor Hyman
Adler's records. His next release
has two 'of the most popular folk
songs in the Jewish catalog, "A
Brivele Der Mamme" and "Der
Dishvasher," on the same record,
now available.
Fred Waring and the Pennsyl-
vanians have recorded a vocal
arrangement o f Tchaikovsky's
"Nutcracker Suite." This will be-
come a hit because it will appeal
to lovers of better music and the
youngsters.
The lucky fellow who has a
girl friend or w i f e named
"Evelyn" will be happy to learn'
of Kay Kyser's new recording of
the same name.- This romantic
ballad will make a nice gift—if
her name is Evelyn.

Our Letter Box
Children's 'Ticket Sales'
For Campaign Criticized
Editor, The Jewish. News:
A notable contribution to the
Allied Jewish Campaign. seems
to be made by the younger ele-
ment of the community, through
the Junior Division. I understand
that this Division includes con-
tributions made by the students
of the several Jewish education=
al facilities, contributions pre-
sumably given from the chil-
dren's own. allowances, or which
they themselves have earned.
I wonder, however, if the di-
rectors of the junior campaign
are aware of the practice of one
of the larger schools in• the city,
which prints 000ks of "tickets,"
and sends its students out into
the streets to sell them, to raise
funds for "the students' contribu-
tion" to the Campaign. This has
resulted not only in house-to-
house solicitation, by small chil-
dren, in the area around the
school, but in such questionable
"campaign techniques" as hav-
ing the children actually sur-
round passengers alighting from
buses on a crowded thoroughfare,
chanting "Give us some money,"
"buy a ticket,' etc. •
This scarcely seems to coin-
cide with the basic reason for
carrying the campaign into the
Jewish schools — that of edu-
cating Jewish children to the
Jewish tradition of tzedakah —
of giving Themselves, to aid their
needy brethren. Moreover, it has
become a distinct community'
nuisance and, though that neigh-
borhood is largely Jewish in
population, has a definite tend-
ency to elicit uncomplimentary
remarks from non-Jews who are
approached.
This practice could be brought
to the attention of campaign
leaders. Perhaps it could be cor-
rected, and the campaign in the
schools be conducted without any
further malpractices.

.Comment on Haganah
Editor, The Jewish News:
I object to one item listed in
the full page ad in your April
30 issue sponsored by the Allied
Jewish Campaign. It states: "The
Jewish Army of Palestine." It
should state: "Haganah."
If you will please refer to the
April 23 issue of New Palestine
you will note that according to
delegates who returned from the
Emergency Actions Committee
meeting in Tel Aviv official ap-
proval was voted upon Haganah-
Irgun military co-ordination, but
Irgun must provide for its own
funds. Therefore, they, too, are
a part of the "Jewish army" but
do not share in the funds re-
ceived from the Allied Jewish
Campaign.

Resettlement of DPs
Called Christian Problem
ALBANY, N. Y., (JPS)—The
resettlement of displaced per-
sons in the United States "is
essentially a Christian problem
because more than 80 per cent
of the DPs are of the Christian
faith," Msgr. Edward E. Swans-
trom, chairman of the National
Catholic Resettlement Council,
stated at a meeting of represen-
tatives of Catholic dioceses in
New York State. "The best esti-
mate available indicates 55 per
cent are Catholic, 27 per cent are
Protestant or Eastern Orthodox
and 18 per cent are Jewish,"e
Msgr. Swanstrom said.

Wineman, chairmen, announced
that the women have already

all the slips. They hope to have
