Political Sidelights:
. President Truman conferred with. Dr. Chaim. Weizmann on
Palestine a day after, he delivered his message to Congress urging
the re-enactment of -selectiVe service . . The meeting was of a
private nature, andyDr. Weizrnann was not listed among the official
visitors -to the White House.
The UN Palestine Commission was • interested in knowing
whether Arabs Will be included in the Jewish Provisional Govern-
ment, since there is a large Arab population in the area of the
Jewish State ... Shertok's reply was that any time the Arabs in the
Jewish State wish to enter the Jewish Cabinet, seats will be made
available to their representatives.
The sudden withdrawal of France from the Big Powers declar-
ation charging that the infiltration of armed foreign Arabs into
Palestine constitutes a threat to peace is explained by the situation
in North Africa . . . France is having great trouble with the Arabs
there ... Top officials in the French Foreign Office advocate the
playing by France of as closely a pan-Arab game in the United
Nations as possible . . This, they • believe, will enable France. to -
retain her hold on North Africa . Agitation is so strong among
Arabs in Algeria and in other countries in North Africa that con-
stant allusions are being made there to "The Day" when the French
will be either expelled or massacred ... The point has been reached
where many Frenchinen in North Africa are now trying to sell out

Possessing a direct, unaffected
personality, Mrs. Kahn exhibits
an unusual Capacity for work—
since she not only handles a res-
ponsible phase of the Division's
campaign, but also serves as a
