MC Hails Court
Ruling on Bob-Lo
Abraham Harzfeld, Zion
Leader To Address Histadritt
NEW YORK — Rabbi Irving
Miller, chairman of the execu-
tive committee of the American
Jewish Congress, hailed 'the de-
cision of the U. S. Supreme Court
upholding the Michigan Civil
Rights Statute as "an important
victory 'in the fight against racial
and religious discrimmination."
The_ case, ,in which the Con-
gress had filed a supporting brief
in the Supreme Court, arose out
of prosecution of a steamship line,
carrying passengers between De-
troit an an island in Canadian
waters, (Bob-Lo,) which was dis-
criminating against Negroes.
Pointing out that this was the
first Supreme Court decision
recognizing the validity of state
statutes forbidding such discrim-
ination by places of public ac-
commodation, Rabbi Miller called
for vigorous enforcement of ex-
isting state statutes and the pas-
sag of similar laws in other states.

Weizmann Confident U. S. Will
Help Partition Implementation
NEW YORK,. (JTA) --- Con-
fidence that :the United States, as
a member of the United Nations,
will its full part" in the im-
plementation of . the Palestine
partition • decision of the U. N:
General-.Assembly, was expresSed
by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, leader
of the World Zionist movement,
.upon his arrival, in.:: New York at
the Urgent-request of the Jewish
Agency.
In a statement issued follow-
ing his landing from the "Queen
Mary," Dr. Weizi-nann warned
that "unless due preparations are
made • for Jewish defense, the
Jewish population of :Palestine
will be . exposed to grave danger
when the Mandate is terminated."
He appealed t Britain to fulfill
its promise of "loyal acceptance"
of the U. N. partition decision,
and • emphasized that when the
Jewish State is established, it
will find means to cooperate har
, moniously with the Arabs.
Belief in Just Result
"The purpose of my visit," he
said, "is to do whatever lies in
my power to help clarify the
problems which the United Na-
tions faces in carrying out the
resolutions adopted at the Gen-
eral Assembly on the future of
Palestine. I gin well aware that
the implementation of this pro-
ject raises many difficulties, but
these difficulties are as nothing
,compared-with the dangers which
arise if the United Nations policy
were to be altered by force: If
that were to happen, which I -do
not believe, one result would be
the discredit and decline of the
United Nations and ,a grave blow
to the very idea of international
authority. Another result. would
be the prolongation of conflict, in
PaleStine.
"I am confident," Dr. Weizmann
continued, "that the United Na-
tions, and especially those states
which sponsored . the United Na-
tions resolution, cannot allow
/these consequences to come about.
For that reason; I have no doubt
that the United Nations, with the
support of the United States Gov-
ernment . and.. other governments
concerned, will find the means of
overcoming the difficulties which
have been raised through a vio-
