Of Theology Seminary
Death of Mrs. Blumenthal Mourned
In Religious, Community Circles
Plans have been completed for
the fifth_ annual banquet of the
Theological Seminary, Yeshivath
Chachmey Lublin, which will
take, place at 6 p. m. Sunday,
Feb. 8, at Lachor's.
Rabbi Abraham Shapiro, brot-
her of Rabbi Meyer Shapiro,
founder of the Yeshivah in Eur-
ope, will be guest speaker. Also
present as speaker will 'be Rabbi
El Silver, presiotent of the Union
of • Orthodox. Rabbis.
Tickets may be obtained at the
office of the Seminary, Linwood
at Elinhurst, or from Mr. Sarnoff,
ticket chairman, 2697 Monterey.
A familiar and beloved person
will be missing henceforth from
all important Jewish meetings
and from services at Congrega-
tion Shdarey Zedek. •
The death on Jan.: 21 of Mrs.
Golda Keidan Blumenthal is being
mourned by many organizations
in whose activities she took an
active interest.
Mrs. Blumenthal, 65; whose
residence wai at 3200 Chicago
Blvd., was .a regular attendant
at Shaarey Zedek services. She
took a deep interest in congre-
gational and Zionist affairs, was
a member of Hadassah, Jewish
National Fund, Shaarey Zedek

celebrated in the branches of
the United , Ilebrew Schools.. The
project' of planting of trees in
Palestine was, carried out. The
children acquainted themselves
with the idea of planting trees,
the impoitance of the trees for
the developmeAt of Palestine, and
each child / contributed towards
this project.
Parties at which Palestinian
fruits were served were arranged
in all the classrooms on Monday,

Goutman, product of our own
Jewish Center Art School, was
recently an ' honored guest of the
National*Conference of thrUnited
Jewish Appeal at Atlantic City.
His painting "Exodus 1947," pre-
sented at that meeting won wide-
spread aprpoval.
Mr. Goutman won a Chicago
Art School Scholarship, directly
from his Jewish Center, School
training. Awarded a traveling
fellowship from the Chicago Art
Institute, he traveled and paint-
ed in Mexico. The government
commissioned Mr. Goutman to
paint portraits and employ his
art in hospitals in both Atlantic
and Pacific theatres of War. At
the close of the War, Mr. Gout-
man reached considerable success
in Hollywood, where he painted
portraits • of many prominent
Movie stars, also creating all the
art work for "The Moon and
Sixpence," the story of the life
of Gaugin.
At present, Mr. Goutman is
following his Fine Arts career
in New York City. Last year he
contributed several paintings to
Jewish Community Center Art
Exhibit, revealing skill, distinc-
tion • and emotional impact. We
wish him well and congratulate
him on his most recent honor and
recognition.
