JWV Able to Assist
At Reburial Services
',INF Conference Sunday;
Rabbi Gold Will Speak
Representatives of more than
100' organizations are expected to
participate in the city-wide con-
ference of the Jewish National
Fund Council of Detroit this Sun-
day; Dec. 14, at the Detroit- Le-
land Hotel.
Sessions will be held from 11
a. m. to 1 p. in. and 2:30 to
5 p. m.
Rabbi Wolf Gold will be the
principal speaker and the guest
soloist will be the Czech bari-
tone who now resides in Detroit,
Pavel Slavensky-Freilich.
Prominent local leaders will
participate in the conference, ac-
cording to Irving W. Schlussel,
chairman of the JNF Council.
Organizations whose delegates
have not yet registered are urged
to send their representatives to
these sessions.
Rabbi Gold, chairman of the
Mizrachi World Central and
member of the Executive of the
Jewish Agency for Palestine, has
toured South Africa, Latin Amer-
ica, Western and Central Europe.
Together with Chief Rabbi Dr.
Isaac Herzog of Eretz Israel, he
recently completed a tour through
almost all countries on the Euro-
pean continent.
He is known as one of the most
influential* personalities in the
Zionist world, as , one of the
founders of the American Miz-
rachi, and its president for many
years.
Rabbi Gold participated in
most of the World Zionist Con-
gresses and has for many years
been a member of the Actions
Committee. He also was a mem-

Will Be Guest of
Congress Women
The Women's Division of the
American Jewish Congress an-
nounces a Hanukah luncheon
A Jewish War Veterans Council
of Administration meeting was
held Sunday at JWV headquar-
ters. Among the major subjects
discussed was the re-burial of re
turned Jewish war dead. The
JWV Memorial Service Commit-
tee is now in a position to assist
all families-of returned war dead
in the conduct of military funer-
als.
It was reported that the Allied
Veterans Council has voted that
the JWV be recognized as one of
the major veterans organizations
and is therefore entitled to five
men on the council instead of two.
The annual military ball of the
Jewish War Veterans to be held
at the Masonic Temple Feb. 28
promises to be the most outstand-
ing JWV affair of the season.
Mayor-elect Eugene Van Ant-
werp, a past national commander
of the VFW, will be one of the
honored guests. Gov . Kim Sigler
also is expected.
A famous name band will' fur-
nish the music. The ball will open
with the massing of colors by
the 19 posts and 13 auxiliaries.

Mrs. A. Shulman
To Speak at JNF
Rally on Tuesday
Members of the Ladies' Auxil-
iary of the Jewish National Fund
are urged by the president, Mrs.
Jack Rosenthal, to bring their
husbands and friends to the rally
next Tuesday evening, Dec. 16,
in the social hall of the Bnai
David, Elmhurst and 14th.
Avis Shulman, the wife of Rab-
bi Charles Shull an, now of New
York, will be gu est speaker. The
eminent Czechoslovakian singer,
Pavel Slavensky-Freilich, will be
the soloist.
Avis Shulman is a graduate of
the University of Cincinnati and
is one of the few women to have
received a degree from the He-
brew Union College. She did
graduate work at Northwestern
University and the University of
Chicago.
As a communal leader in ,Chi-
cago, Mrs. Shulman was active
in every phase of Jewish life. She
established and handled a Speak-
er's Bureau for the Jewish Wel-
fare Fund in 1938; served as a
member of the executive of Had-
assah and of the Temple Sister-
hoods; was president of the Wo-
men's Division of the American
Jewish Congress.
Mrs. Shulman travelled extens-
ively in Europe and has spent a
year in Palestine and the Near
East. During part of this period
she worked in a collective colony
thereby gaining first hand knowl-
edge of the hazards and achieve-
ments of Palestine.
She is a member of the Na-
tional Administrative Council of
the Jewish National Fund; serves
on the executive of the Ameri-
can Jewish Congress and is a
member of the executive of the
World Jewish Congress.
