Program Arranged for Pisgah's
90th Anniversary Banquet Nov. 18
With an impressive program
marking the event, Pisgah Lodge
No. 34 Bnai Brith will celebrate
its 90th anniversary on Tuesday
night, Nov. 18, at a banquet in
the • Fountain Room of the Ma-
sonic Temple.
The principal address at the
banquet will be delivered by
Rabbi Arthur J. Lelyveld, of New
York, who will enter upon his
duties as national director of
Bnai ,Brith Hillel Foundations on
Jan. 1, when Dr. Sachar's resig-
nation becomes effective. During
the past year Rabbi Lelyveld has
served as associate national di-
rector of Hillel Foundations.
Rabbi Lelyveld was born in
New York City in 1913, was
graduated from Columbia Uni-
versity with Phi Beta Kappa hon-
Ors in 1933, and was ordained
Rabbi by the Hebrew Union Col-
lege in 1939. As an Edward L.
Heinscheimer teaching fellow at
Hebrew Union - College, he also
served as rabbi of Congregation
Bene Israel in Hamilton, 0. For
several years he occupied the
pulpit of Temple Israel, Omaha,
where he was active in Jewish
and general community affairs.
For two years . he served as di-
rector of the Committee on Unity
for Palestine and is now national
vice chairman i of that agency.
He is also a member of the
Commission on Justice and Peace
of the C e n t r al Conference of
American Rabbis, was one of the
founders of the National Federa-
tion of Temple Youth, and is a

throughout the years in building
up what they now claim to be
defending, then they might be
accused of aberration, but spirit-
ually they would be akin to what ;
is still the backbone of the Yishuv
—the General Federation of Jew-
ish Labor, the Histadrut. But they
are not sniritiially akin to the His-
tadrut. The founded of the Re-
visionist movement, Vladimir Ja-
botinsky, was a bitter enemy of
the Histadrut, and for years con-
ducted an unabated struggle
against this 'red menace.' His '
party set up the so-called `Na-
tional Labor Organization' to
compete with the Histadrut and
in practice succeeds in supplying
a certain class of employer in
Jewish Palestine with an ideal
scab union. . . .
"In Palestine they were known
then (up to World War II) for
what they were, and were iso-
lated. Now they expediently de-
vote their major efforts to con-
ducting 'war' against the British
and-thus succeed in distracting
the attention and comprehension
of well-intentioned but undis-
criminating individuals from their
real intend. Their real in-
tent is to dominate the Yishuv
and strike a bargain with (today
they claim it-is the U.S.A.) Great
Britain! They have said it in the
past. They would be prepared to
renew their offer in the future.
"It is emotionally satisfying,
we know, fOr American Jews and
Christians to hear that Jews in
Palestine are fighting back. Very
well. We in Palestine knew that
Jews here were capable of fight-
ing and did fight back when the I
occasion required it, long before
I.Z.L. seceded from the Hagana
because the Hagana wouldn't de-
liberately murder innocent Arabs
in retaliation for the murder of
Jews by Arab terrorists.
"To lay a mine on a road and
blow up a jeep also requires
courage, true 'enough. Depravity
serves as a good substitute for
courage, though. To capture host-
ages and hang them requires guts.
Sadism, however, will do where
there are no guts. And when
