Record CABINETS?

The Detroit chapter of the Na-
tional Lawyers' Guild has ap-
proved the majority recommen-
dations of the UN Palestine com-
mittee, it was announced by
Henry M. Sweeny, chapter presi-
dent. The following eight amend-
ments were proposed:
1) That Britain's trusteeship be
terminated and the UN assume
authority;
2) a specific date be set for
removal of British forces;
3) economic unity provisions
be made without the power of
veto in either the Arab or Jewish
state;
4) each state be recognized as
independent;
5) immigration into the Jewish
area be subject - only to the con-
trol of the Jewish agency;
6) the holy places - of Jerusa-
lem be placed under UN trustee-
ship, excluding the areas of Jeru-
salem which have no religious
significance;
7) Jaffa be incorporated into
the Arab state;
8) 'UN members pledge to ab-
stain from any effort to secure
the stationing of military forces
in either of the states.
A brief supporting the parti-
tion of Palestine has been filed
with the American delegation to
the UN, through the State De-
partment, 'by the National Law-
yers Guild committee on interna-
tional law and relations. The
brief recommends that a multi-
national authority administer Pal-
estine during the interim period.

2 Americans in Palestine
Awarded King's Medal
JERUSALEM (JPS-Palcor)—
The King's medal, for "service in
the cause of peace" was awarded
to Mrs. Ida Davidowitz, formerly
of the United States, chairman
of the Tel Aviv Hospitality Corn-
mittee and Service Club, and
Peretz W. Etkes, senior executive
engineer in the Government's
Department of Public Works,
who is also an American.

MEXICO CITY (JTA)—Three
former Mexican presidents, Pas-
quale Rubio, Manuel Avila Ca-
macho and Emilio Fortes-Gil;
have issued a joint statement sup-
porting the establishment of a
-Jewish state in Palestine. The
statement, released through the
Mexican Pro-Palestine Commit-
tee, will be sent to the Mexican
delegation at the United Nations.
